The Butler men's (9-0) and women's (7-0) teams are both undefeated in League play heading into Thursday's action. The 13-0 combined record is the best among all Division I schools in the country. Butler is off to its second-best Horizon League start in school history at 6-0. The Bulldogs started League play 9-0 in 1992-93. Butler takes an eight-game winning streak into Thursday's contest at Green Bay. The Bulldogs have not won nine straight since Jan. 10-March 6, 1998. Butler has not allowed more than 50 points during the eight-game winning streak, which is the longest streak in program history. Butler shot 70 percent (19-for-27) from the field in the first half of Friday's game against Valparaiso. The Bulldogs held the Crusaders without a field goal for the first 9:30 of the contest and 22 points below their season scoring average (65.9). Butler's bench outscored the Valpo reserves, 54-23, on Friday. The Bulldogs have registered more bench points than their opponent in 16 of 18 tilts this season.
CLEVELAND STATE VIKINGS (10-9 overall, 4-3 HL) Cleveland State is allowing just 55 points per game in seven Horizon League contests and has held six of its seven League foes to 55 points or fewer. Cleveland State's 70-55 win on Thursday at Detroit extended its road winning streak to three for the first time since the 2001-02 season. The Vikings have dished out 55 assists over the last three games -- on 74 baskets. Senior Dominique Butler's 10-point effort on Saturday at Wright State moved her into 18th on the school's all-time scoring list (1,032). Sophomore Shawnita Garland has recorded multiple steals in 11 straight games.
DETROIT TITANS (6-13 overall, 2-6 HL) Senior Sandi Brown led Detroit with 17 points and eight rebounds on Thursday against Cleveland State. Brown then collected her third double-double -- 14 points and 14 rebounds -- in Saturday's 73-50 victory over Youngstown State. Junior Chanica Hall paced UDM with 19 points on Saturday vs. Youngstown State. Junior Heather Hatter tallied a career-high 13 points on Saturday. She made 7-of-8 from the free-throw line. Detroit posted a 38-21 advantage on the glass vs. YSU.
GREEN BAY PHOENIX (15-3 overall, 7-0 HL) Green Bay extended its winning streak over Loyola to 34 games on Thursday and its winning streak over UIC to 10 contests on Saturday. The 34-game stretch is Green Bay's best against any opponent. Green Bay ranks second in the country in scoring defense (51.0). Horizon League opponents are scoring just 44.9 points per game vs. the Phoenix. Senior Rachel Porath needs just three rebounds to become the third player in Green Bay women's basketball history to collect 1,000 career points, 500 rebounds, and 250 assists. Porath went over 1,000 points earlier this season and recorded her 250th assist on Saturday at UIC.
LOYOLA RAMBLERS (5-12 overall, 0-7 HL) Loyola has lost nine straight games after opening the season with a 5-3 record. Loyola's 0-7 Horizon League start equals the worst in program history (1999-2000 season). After averaging 50 points per game over its previous five games, the Loyola offense came to life on Saturday against Milwaukee as four players reached double figures in a 74-point effort.
MILWAUKEE PANTHERS (8-10 overall, 3-4 HL) Milwaukee made 26-of-26 from the free-throw line on Saturday at Loyola. The performance tied an NCAA record. The school record was 12-for-12, while the Horizon League record was 16-for-16. Milwaukee had five players score in double-figures on Saturday for just the second time this season. The Panthers have also put four in double-figures on three occasions this year. Sophomore Lindsay Laur posted her third double-double of the season, which makes her the first Panther -- other than senior Traci Edwards -- to reach that plateau since the 2005-06 campaign.
UIC FLAMES (10-7 overall, 4-3 HL) This week will mark the halfway point of the Horizon League schedule. Youngstown State and Cleveland State are the only conference teams UIC has yet to face this season. UIC continues to lead the conference in rebounding (39.7 rpg) and is paced on the glass by freshman Jasmine Bailey, who is averaging 7.2 boards per outing.Freshman Shamei Green averaged 12.5 points and 3.0 assists in two games last week. She scored a career-high 15 points on Saturday against Green Bay.
VALPARAISO CRUSADERS (9-8 overall, 4-3 HL) Freshman Betsy Adams led Valparaiso with 12 second-half points on Friday against Butler. Valparaiso had not allowed a player to score 20 points in a game this season until Susan Lester scored 31 for the Bulldogs.
WRIGHT STATE RAIDERS (9-10 overall, 5-3 HL) Wright State rolled to a 72-41 victory over Youngstown State on Thursday. The 31-point win was WSU's largest since knocking off Tennessee State, 79-37, on Nov. 22, 2003. Sophomore Ta-myra Davis led all scorers with 16 points against Youngstown State and was one rebound short of a double-double. Sophomore LaShawna Thomas led all scorers with 16 points on Saturday against Cleveland State. Ta-myra Davis added 10 points and 10 boards.
YOUNGSTOWN STATE PENGUINS (2-16 overall, 0-7 HL) Freshman Camisha Alexander scored a career-high 15 points on Saturday at Detroit. Alexander has scored 30 points in the last three games, which equals her output in the previous 10 contests. Junior Rachael Manuel made her first career start at Detroit. Senior Kelsey Gurganus scored 17 points in two games last week and is averaging 10 points over her last three contests.
