HORIZON LEAGUE TEAM NOTES

BUTLER BULLDOGS (2-1 overall, 0-0 HL)

  • Senior Susan Lester (16.0, 7.3) and junior Brittany Bowen (14.7, 7.0) are leading the team in scoring and rebounding. Bowen is also shooting 17-for-27 from the floor.


  • After being out-rebounded by 17 in its season opener at Kentucky, Butler has posted a +17 rebounding margin over the past two games.

    CLEVELAND STATE VIKINGS (1-2 overall, 0-0 HL)



  • Senior Kailey Klein is just the fourth player in school history to record 1,500 points and 500 rebounds in a career.


  • Sophomore Janelle Adams scored a career-high 12 points on Sunday at Wisconsin.


  • Cleveland State led the entire game at Wisconsin until a UW basket with 1:39 left.


  • CSU shot a season-best .510 against the Badgers.

    DETROIT TITANS (1-2 overall, 0-0 HL)



  • Detroit cut a 17-point deficit to one in the second half on Saturday against Cincinnati, but the Bearcats ended up posting a 65-58 win over the Titans.


  • Detroit knocked down 10-of-11 (.909) at the free-throw line against Cincinnati for a season-best 91 percent.


  • Sophomore Yar Shayok managed her second double-double of the campaign vs. Cincinnati with 12 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

    GREEN BAY PHOENIX (3-0 overall, 0-0 HL)



  • Despite only returning one starter in 2009-10, Green Bay has won all three of its games to this point in the season.


  • Green Bay is leading the Horizon League in scoring defense (50.7) to this point in the campaign. In 2008-09, the Phoenix led the entire nation in that category (50.8).

    LOYOLA RAMBLERS (3-1 overall, 0-0 HL)



  • Loyola is off to its best four-game start since the 2001-02 season.


  • Senior Maggie McCloskey eclipsed the 1,000-point plateau and became Loyola's all-time leader in three-point field goals in an 85-66 win over SIU-Edwardsville on Monday.


  • Loyola rejected a season-best seven shots and held Central Michigan to 29 percent shooting in a 65-61 victory on Saturday. Junior Brittany Boeke led LU with four blocks.

    MILWAUKEE PANTHERS (2-1 overall, 0-0 HL)



  • Junior Jenilee Klomstad posted her first career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds on Sunday against Wisconsin.


  • Jenilee Klomstad owns eight blocks through three games in 2009. She entered the season with just 20 career blocks.


  • Milwaukee was +11 on the glass against Wisconsin. UWM has out-rebounded its first three opponents by an average of over 11 per contest.


  • Milwaukee drew 1,017 fans vs. Wisconsin -- its best crowd since Feb. 2, 2008.

    UIC FLAMES (0-4 overall, 0-0 HL)



  • Sophomore Shameia Green was named to the Subway Classic All-Tournament Team. She averaged 12 points in two games for the Flames.


  • Senior Jessie Miller collected six steals in two contests last week, including four in the first half on Friday against Colorado. Miller is tied for third in the League with 3.0 spg.


  • With three rejections on Saturday vs. Minnesota, senior Cassie Johnson moved into a fourth-place tie on UIC's all-time blocks list (119). She leads the League with 2.8 bpg.


  • As a team, UIC leads the Horizon League with 7.3 blocks per game.


  • Freshman Taylor Foulks scored a career-high 11 points at Minnesota.

    VALPARAISO CRUSADERS (3-0 overall, 0-0 HL)



  • Valparaiso has started 3-0 for the first time in school history.


  • Sophomore Betsy Adams tallied a career-high 21 points on Thursday against SIU-Edwardsville. She is also 18-for-19 (.947) at the free-throw line this season.


  • Junior Ashley Varner posted her first career double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds on Sunday against Colorado State.


  • Valparaiso started just 7-of-43 (.163) from the floor against Colorado State and trailed by nine, but forced 27 turnovers to rally and win.


  • Valparaiso has made 19 more free throws than opponents have attempted this year.

    WRIGHT STATE RAIDERS (2-1 overall, 0-0 HL)



  • Senior Kanisha Ward is moving up Wright State's career list for three-pointers made (8th, 92) and three-pointers attempted (8th, 302).


  • Wright State has scored 40+ points in the second half of each contest this season.


  • Head coach Bridgett Williams claimed her 100th victory at Wright State last week.

    YOUNGSTOWN STATE PENGUINS (0-4 overall, 0-0 HL)



  • Sophomore Macey Nortey scored a career-high 20 points on Wednesday against Kent State, then handed out a career-best eight assists on Sunday vs. Canisius.


  • Sophomore Maryum Jenkins scored a career-high 15 points against Canisius after being held scoreless in back-to-back games.


  • Sophomore Kenya Middlebrooks is 6-of-11 from behind the arc this season after going 2-for-20 last year.
