Horizon League Player of the Week

Nicole Soulis, UW-Green Bay
Junior Forward * Green Bay, Wis.
Soulis led the Phoenix to the Oneida Casino Holiday Tournament Title, winning tournament MVP honors along the way. The 6-foot-2, junior scored a 2005-06 league-best 26 and grabbed 11 rebounds in the championship game against Vermont. For the week, Soulis averaged 16.5 points per game and 9.0 rebounds per game.

Lade Akande, Butler
Freshman Forward/Center * Robinson, Ill.
Akande earned Hilton Concord Thanksgiving Classic All-Tournament honors over the weekend, averaging 18.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per game. The 6-foot-1 freshman posted the first double-double of her career Friday night with 23 points and 12 rebounds in a 69-57 victory over Central Florida.

Omega Harrington, Cleveland State
Senior Guard * Indianapolis, Ind.
Harrington led the Vikings to a 2-1 record last week, averaging 14 points, 2.7 assists and two steals per game in the three contests. In Friday night's victory over Akron, the 5-foot-7 guard had a game-high 19 points with 16 coming in the second stanza.

Chrissy Dizon, UIC
Senior Guard * Chicago, Ill.
Dizon averaged 16.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game in the Flames two contests during the week. The 5-foot-8 guard paces the Flames offense in scoring (15.2), rebounding (5.8) and assists (7.0).

Traci Edwards, UW-Milwaukee
Freshman Center * Menasha, Wis.
Edwards notched her second-straight double-double in the Panthers' 90-87 double-overtime win over Southeast Missouri State. In the marathon contest, the 6-foot-2 center scored 20 points, grabbed a game-high 12 boards and blocked four shots. Since being moved into the starting line-up three games ago, Edwards is averaging 16.7 points and 10.7 rebounds per game.

Brittney Whiteside, Wright State
Junior Guard * Columbus, Ohio
Whiteside won all-tournament honors at the Seminole Classic over the weekend. For the week, the 5-foot-8 guard averaged 12.7 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game.

Marquise Hanser, Loyola
Junior Guard * Ft. Mitchell, Ky.
Hanser continued her torrid scoring rate with an average of 19.0 points per game in the Ramblers' three contests last week. The 5-foot-9 guard also averaged 5.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game. Hanser's best performance of the weekend came in Sunday's loss to UMBC, putting up a game-high 23.

Butler
HAMILTON LIKES THE THREE: Junior guard Ellen Hamilton has shot 65 percent (11-for-17) from behind the arc in the Bulldogs' three games this season. Hamilton went 4-of-4 in Friday's win over Central Florida and is averaging 15.3 points per game this season.

CHARITY POINTS: Butler hit 20-of-24 free throws Saturday against Saint Mary's (Calif.). On the campaign, Butler's backcourt rotation of junior Jackie Closser (12-of-13), Ellen Hamilton (seven-of-seven) and freshman Candace Jones (six-of-six) has shot 96 percent (25-of-26) from the charity stripe.

SEVEN TO GO: Butler head coach Beth Couture is seven wins shy of 300 for her career. Couture owns a 293-170 mark in her 17-year career, including a 35-53 ledger in five seasons at Butler.

Cleveland State
RECORD CROWD FOR UCONN: Cleveland State set a women's basketball attendance record when 2,948 fans showed up to watch the Vikings battle No. 8 Connecticut on Sunday. The old mark of 2,173 was set against Western Illinois on Feb. 14, 1993.

14-STRAIGHT FOR MARTIN: Senior guard Erin Martin scored 14 points in a row in a little over three minutes in the first half against Akron, allowing the Vikings to recover from a 14-point deficit and head into the locker room tied at 29-29.

362 AND COUNTING: Cleveland State heads into play this week having made a three-point field goal in 362 consecutive games, the longest active streak in college basketball. The last time the Vikings failed to drain at least one triple was on Dec. 17, 1992 against Cincinnati.

Detroit
JASKOT GETTING IT GOING: Senior guard Kelly Jaskot has seen her points-per-game average jump from 3.9 last season to 8.0 in 2005-06. The 5-foot-8 senior set a career high with 19 points in Tuesday's loss at Kansas.

SECOND HALF WOES: In the first half of the Titans' first four games, they have played teams even, 131-131. However, maintaining the momentum has been difficult, as Detroit has been outscored 173-122 in the final stanza.

UIC
GIVING THE CATS A RUN: The Flames were set back by Northwestern's Wildcats Saturday evening despite having four players in double digits and a 31-29 half-time lead. Junior guard Lashonda Grant paced the UIC offense with 21 points (8-of-17), while senior guard Chrissy Dizon added 19 and junior guards Krystal Hugelier and Kelly True each had 14.

FILLING UP ON STATS: Chrissy Dizon leads the Flames in points per game (15.2), rebounds per game (5.8) and assists per game (7.0). In two games last week, the 5-foot-6 guard tallied 33 points, 17 rebounds, 13 assists and five steals.

Loyola
BACKCOURT PUTTING UP POINTS: Loyola's backcourt trio of junior Marquise Hanser, freshman Jana Lucas and senior Mandy Mennella combined for 44 points in Sunday's loss to UMBC. Hanser led the way with 23, while Manella had 11 and Lucas chipped in 10.

SLOW START: Loyola has dropped its first five games of the 2005-06 campaign. The Ramblers have been outscored 374-264 and have averaged 29.4 turnovers per game.

UW-Green Bay
NOVEMBER + HOME = WIN: UW-Green Bay improved to 17-1 all-time at home in the month of November with back-to-back wins this past weekend at the Phoenix Sports Center. The last time the Phoenix lost at home in November was the 1978-79 campaign.

SECOND HALF IS POPP TIME: Junior guard Amanda Popp provided a spark for the Phoenix offense in the second half of UW-Green Bay's come-from-behind win over Vermont on Saturday. The Brillion, Wis., native scored all 12 of her points in the second stanza to aid the Phoenix rally. Popp fired 5-for-8 from the field, including 2-for-3 from long range.

UW-Milwaukee
EXTRA TIME? NO PROBLEM: Both of UW-Milwaukee's wins this season have come in overtime. The Panthers have shot 56.3 percent after regulation, including 66.7 on three-point attempts. UWM also is 85.7 percent from the free-throw line and has outrebounded its opponents by 10 (16-6).

LOGGING THE MINUTES: Sophomore guard Meredith Onson set a school record for minutes off the bench with 44 minutes in Friday's marathon. Senior guard/forward Nichole Drummond played a team-high 46 minutes in the contest, the third-most minutes played in a game in team history, and the most since Teri Stoltenberg played 47 against Valparaiso (Jan. 19, 2000).

EDWARDS STEPPING UP: Freshman center Traci Edwards posted a second-straight double-double Friday with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Since moving into the starting lineup three games ago, the 6-foot-2 freshman is averaging 16.7 points and 10.7 rebounds.

Wright State
COMING UP CLUTCH: The Raiders scored 18 of the last 23 points of the game to pull out an 80-77 win over Longwood Tuesday night. Five Wright State players scored in double figures with sophomore guard Ana Marisa Perez leading the way with a career-high 18 off the bench, including 15 in the second half. Senior guard Kendra Agee also set a career high with 16 while sophomore forward Whitney Lewis, junior guard Brittney Whiteside and sophomore center Alicia Avery each chipped in 12.

WHITESIDE GETTING IT DONE: Brittney Whiteside posted her first double-double of the year with 12 points and 11 rebounds along with five steals against Montana on Saturday. Whiteside, who was named to the Seminole Classic All-Tournament Team, paced WSU with 14 points in the consolation game of the tournament.

Youngstown State
FIRST TIME FOR SCHLOEMP: Sophomore forward Jessica Schloemp posted her first career double-double with a career-high 17 points and 10 rebounds in YSU's 69-59 win over Ohio. For the week, the 6-foot-3 forward averaged 8.7 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.

FRESHMAN FINDING HER WAY: Freshman forward Megan Snorf grabbed a career-high nine rebounds in a 53-50 loss to IUPUI on Saturday. For the week, the Dayton, Ohio, native averaged six rebounds per game.
