BULLDOGS WORKING OVERTIME: Western Kentucky squeaked past Butler in the Bulldogs' lone game of the week, notching a winning goal with just 28 seconds remaining in the second overtime.
TITANS GAME-WINNER INSTANT REPLAY: UDM's Selena Stanski tallied the game-winning goal at the 84:35 mark of the second half breaking a scoreless tie to give Detroit a 1-0 win over IUPUI for its first victory of the season on Aug. 25 at Titan Field. Junior midfielder Lauren Moss took the ball in space down the right side of the field and fed junior forward Emily Kiely at the 18 yard line. Kiely turned and delivered a crossing pass to Stanski over the middle, who beat IUPUI goalie Jamie Farrell with a shot to the right side post from 10 yards out.
HINDE PICKS UP FIRST CAREER SHUTOUT: Detroit freshman goalkeeper Joanna Hinde recorded her first career shutout and win against IUPUI. Hinde recorded six saves while anchoring a defense which limited IUPUI's scoring opportunities and rebounded effectively from allowing three goals in a 3-0 season opening loss to Central Michigan on Aug. 22.
WHERE'S THE EQUALIZER?: Valparaiso is off to a 2-1 start, with all three of its matches a 1-0 final. Valpo has captured 1-0 decisions over Ball State and Air Force, and the Crusaders dropped a contest at Colorado College by the same score. Jackie Kondratko has scored both of Valpo's goals this season. The tallies are the first two game-winning goals of her career.
CLIMBING THE KEEPER RECORD BOOK: Valpo's Mele Cabral is now in fourth place on Valpo's career shutouts list. Cabral currently is the only league keeper with two shutouts.
ANOTHER YEAR, ANOTHER MILWAUKEE CUP: Milwaukee captured its second straight Milwaukee Cup, defeating Ohio State on Wednesday (4-3) and Samford on Friday (4-2). Freshman Sarah Hagen led the way, scoring three goals and handing out an assist on the way to Milwaukee Cup MVP honors. She had a goal and an assist against the Buckeyes, and added two goals against the Bulldogs.
PLAYING IN THE BIG DANCE: Loyola qualified for the 2007 NCAA Women's Soccer Championship by winning the Horizon League Championship. The Ramblers fell to 2006 national runner-up Notre Dame in the opening round on Nov. 16 (3-0).
COACH OF THE YEAR: Milwaukee's Michael Moynihan was named 2007 Horizon League Coach of the Year for the fifth time in his 11-year career. He led the Panthers to a 23-3 record and their eighth consecutive Horizon League regular-season crown.
PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Loyola sophomore Cynthia Morote-Ariza was named 2007 Horizon League Player of the Year. The forward placed 15th in the nation in points per contest (1.79) and 19th in goals per game (0.71).
A REMARKABLE RECORD: Milwaukee owns a 48-1-3 (.952) record in league play over the past eight seasons. The Panthers outscored their opponents 23-3 en route to a 7-0-1 (.938) league mark in 2007.
OFF TO A GOOD START AGAIN: Wright State has started the season with a winning record in each of the four seasons that head coach Pat Ferguson has been at the helm. The Raiders are 3-1 this season - a record they have owned after four matches twice under Ferguson - and will aim to extend their three-match winning streak at Eastern Illinois on Friday, Sept. 5.
KASMER CLIMING THE RAIDER CHARTS: Sophomore Amber Kasmer tallied her first goal of the season on Sunday against IPFW, after adding an assist on Friday evening. Kasmer now has 14 goals and six assists for her career and sits just three goals shy of cracking the career top 10 at WSU.
SNYDER RACKING UP THE SAVES: Youngstown State junior goalkeeer Mariah Snyder played her third career match in net this weekend, collecting nine saves against Robert Morris last Thursday. In the Penguins' Aug. 24 season opener, Snyder had seven saves against Kent State.
