Horizon League Women's Soccer Player of the Week
Joanna Hinde, Detroit
Freshman -- Shelby Township, Mich.
Hinde, a native of Shelby Township, Mich., led the Titans to a 1-0-1 week, compiling 200 shutout minutes and 17 saves in a 0-0 tie against Eastern Michigan Tuesday and a 2-0 win over Madonna University Friday.
Against the Eagles, the freshman was under assault for all 110 minutes as EMU outshot Detroit by a 24-8 margin. Hinde stopped all 12 shots on goal in leading the Titans to a tie.
The 12 saves is tied for a season league-high with Green Bay freshman Maddie Drusch.
On Friday, Hinde totaled five saves to lead Detroit to its first road win of the season, a 2-0 win at local rival Madonna.
For the week, Hinde played 200 scoreless minutes, making 17 saves and posting a pair of shutouts.

News & Notes Around The Horizon League
`CARRIE-ING' THE BULLDOGS: Junior Carrie Twyman had a field day on offense against IPFW Sunday, taking eight of the Bulldogs' 23 shots and scoring two of their three goals. She currently leads the team with six points on three goals scored, including both of the Bulldogs' game-winning goals.
LONG DISTANCE ASSIST: Sophomore Laura Baker, the Bulldogs' regular goalkeeper, picked up her first collegiate assist against IPFW Sept. 7, booting a pass to junior Molly Kruger, who roped a 40-yard shot into the back of the net for Butler's second goal of the match.
DANIELS FINDS THE MARK: CSU head coach Derrek Falor said during the preseason that he thought freshman Natalie Daniels would be a key member of the lineup this year. Little did he know that after two weekends of play, the Olympia, Wash., midfielder would lead the team in goals (3), points (6) and shots (13). In fact, her three goals is already tied for the fourth-highest total in CSU history with her point total ranking eighth-best.
FRIDAY WAS A WIN-WIN SITUATION: When the Vikings won at Robert Morris on Friday and the men's soccer team claimed a victory at Missouri State later in the evening, it marked just the second time in school history that both soccer teams won on the same day. The other time came on August 27, 2006 when the women defeated Delaware State, 6-0, for the first win in program history and the men followed with a 3-1 win over Canisius in a doubleheader at Krenzler Field.
SHUTTING OUT THE COMPETITION: Freshman goalkeeper Joanna Hinde has tallied three consecutive shutouts leading UDM to a 2-1-1 record. Hinde and the defense have not allowed a goal since the first half of the season opener against Central Michigan back on Aug. 22.
SISTER CONNECTION: In Detroit's 2-0 win at Madonna, the Titans were led by the freshman twin sister tandem of Alison and Alexandra Suschak. At the 41:31 mark, Alexandra passed the ball up from her midfield position to Alison, who blasted a shot from approximately 25 yards out that beat the Madonna goalkeeper to give the Titans a 1-0 lead.
QUICK STRIKING FOR LOYOLA: The Ramblers broke open a 1-1 game against Xavier by scoring five goals in a stirring span of 10:16 early in the second half. Junior Cynthia Morote-Ariza scored two of the goals (48th, 55th minutes) while Julie Colhoff (49th), Alexia Murray (51st) and Jackie Vera (58th) also hit the back of the net during the blitz.The six goals are the most scored under head coach Frank Mateus and the highest for the program since blanking Youngstown State 6-0 on Sept. 26, 2004.
VERA MOVING UP FRONT: After scoring just six points (2g, 2a) last season in the midfield, Jackie Vera has seen more time up front at forward this season and has already accounted for seven points (3g, 1a) in LU's first six matches.
A NEW VALPO VENUE: Last Friday's match against IUPUI was played at Valpo football's Brown Field, and was the first contest played on the new ProGrass surface. The match was moved to Brown Field due to heavy rains in Northwest Indiana.
CLIMBING THE GOALIE RANKINGS: Valpo goalkeeper Mele Cabral's shutout against IUPUI moved her into a tie for third with Rose Holtkamp (1998-2002) on the Crusaders' career list with five.
SEE YOU NEXT FALL: After playing Northern Illinois last Sunday, Green Bay will be off for 12 days, as the Phoenix will return to action Friday, Sept. 19 against Nevada for the team's annual homecoming weekend.
PHOENIX FIRSTS: Senior Claire Townsend had a solid performance against North Dakota Friday, as she tallied her first collegiate goal as well as an assist against the Sioux. Townsend wasn't the only player to score her first collegiate goal in the win over North Dakota. Freshmen Corey Arno and Laura Hamer also scored in the contest for their first career goals, with Arno's tally being the game-winner.
PANTHERS APPEAR IN THE RANKINGS: Following a dazzling 6-0-0 start, Milwaukee has moved into the No. 24 spot in this week's Soccer Buzz rankings. The Panthers are also ranked in the same spot in the Soccer America poll.
HAGEN AMONG NATION'S BEST: UWM freshman Sarah Hagen scored three goals last week, including two game-winners. She now ranks 14th in the nation in points per game (2.83) and 10th in the country in goals per game (1.33). Additionally, Hagen set a school record by scoring a goal in six straight contests.
ROOMA PROVIDES THE FINISH: Senior Jess Rooma has tallied three game-winning goals thus far during the 2008 season, moving her career total to eight. Most of her goals have given the Raiders a win, as she has scored in just nine different matches.
NOT A BAD START FOR PALERMO: Freshman Sara Palermo has recorded a point in four of her first five matches this season, totaling three goals and two assists in five starts in the Raiders midfield. The rookie record for consecutive matches with a point is held by her teammate Amber Kasmer who tallied at least one point in eight straight matches in 2007.
SNYDER SAVES: YSU goalkeeper Mariah Snyder collected a total of 14 saves for the weekend. Snyder leads the Horizon League in saves (30) and saves per match (7.50). She also has an .811 save percentage, good for fifth in the league.
