NEWS AND NOTES FROM HORIZON LEAGUE WOMEN'S SOCCER
STRONG LEAGUE START FOR THE BULLDOGS: Butler has started 3-0 in Horizon League play for the first time since beginning 4-0 in 2002. The Bulldogs have outscored league opponents, 8-2, in the three matches.
BULLDOGS SHUTTING DOWN OPPOSITION: Before allowing a pair of goals in the final six minutes against Detroit, the Butler had held its last four opponents scoreless for more than 353 straight minutes, including shutout wins over Valparaiso, Youngstown State and Xavier.
A WIN FROM THE RECORD: With at least seven matches to play this fall, Cleveland State is just one win away from equaling the school record for wins in a season. CSU is 4-7-1 this year and quickly moving in on last year's total of five wins and one tie in 20 contests.
THANK GOODNESS IT'S FRIDAY: In the last five weeks, the Vikings have posted a 3-1-1 record in matches played on Friday. Their successful play on Fridays actually started last year when the Vikings picked up Friday wins over Robert Morris and Youngstown State and a tie vs. Detroit.
SHUT 'EM DOWN: Detroit freshman goalkeeper Joanna Hinde, the Horizon League Player of the Week on Sept. 8, owns four shutouts this season after blanking Cleveland State, 4-0, last Friday.
HOME SWEET HOME: The Titans' victory over Cleveland State pushed UDM to 5-0-1 in Horizon League home openers since the 2003 season.
BETTER LATE THAN NEVER: After 67 career matches, Detroit's Melanie Slusher scored her first career goal against Oakland on Sept. 29. The victory was UDM's first over the Golden Grizzlies since 1995.
HERE WE GO AGAIN: Loyola has put together four straight wins after a 3-7 start. The win streak is similar to last year when LU started 2-5 before reeling off six straight wins. The Ramblers went on to finish 14-9-1.
MOROTE-ARIZA APPEARS IN NCAA RANKINGS: Loyola junior Cynthia Morote-Ariza tallied a goal and three assists last weekend, pulling her into third in the nation with 1.00 assists per game. Her total of 14 helpers is the highest mark in the nation. Morote-Ariza broke her own Loyola single-season assists record on Sept. 26 against Drake. She also scored the game-winner in the Ramblers' 1-0 win over Milwaukee last Friday.
THOMAS CRACKS TOP 10 AT VALPO: Valparaiso senior Jackie Thomas scored the game-winning goal with 1:18 remaining in regulation last Friday to give Valpo a 2-1 victory over Youngstown State. Her goal, the 10th of her career, ties her for 10th all-time on Valpo's career list. The match-winner was the sixth of her career, moving her into a tie for fourth all-time. She also played a key role for the Crusaders as a defender, helping Valpo limit the Penguins to just 11 shots, only three of which were on goal.
BROWN, McGLONE ALSO MAKE THEIR MARK: Valpo's Kendall Brown and Dana McGlone each had an assist against YSU, moving them both into a tie for second all-time at Valpo with 10 career assists.
DRUSCH APPEARS IN NATIONAL RANKINGS: Green Bay freshman Maddie Drusch made eight saves in Green Bay's win over Northern Iowa, cementing her place among the national rankings in saves. Drusch is among the country's top statistical goalkeepers, ranking 13th in the nation in both save percentage (.881) and saves per game (7.38). The saves total is second in the Horizon League.
PANTHERS APPEAR IN THE RANKINGS: Milwaukee, now 10-2-2 after splitting a pair of contests last week, currently appears in several of women's soccer's national polls. Here is a breakdown of where Milwaukee is ranked this week:

HAGEN AMONG NATION'S BEST: UWM freshman Sarah Hagen, who has scored more than twice as many goals as any other Horizon League player, is one of eight players nationally to already have at least 12 goals. She is 15th in the country in goals per game (0.917) and tied for 26th in the nation in points per game (1.86). She added to those stats last weekend, recording a goal in Milwaukee's 3-0 win at Wright State last Sunday.
KASMER A TOP 10 SCORER AT WSU: With her fifth goal of the season last Wednesday, sophomore Amber Kasmer entered the top 10 in career goals scored at Wright State. The Euclid, Ohio, native now has 17 markers for her career and is tied for 10th on the Raiders' all-time charts.
SNYDER SAVES: Youngstown State freshman goalkeeper Mariah Snyder collected 20 saves last weekend and now leads the Horizon League with 91 saves this season. She also owns the league's highest mark in saves per match (7.58) while her .843 save percentage is good for fourth in the league.
