HORIZON LEAGUE NEWS AND NOTES
BUTLER REACHING FOR DOUBLE DIGIT WINS: With nine wins on the season, Butler is just one victory shy of matching its 10-win total from the 2007 campaign. One key reason for the success has been BU's success at home. The Bulldogs are 6-3-0 at the Butler Bowl.
ALREADY A RECORD SEASON FOR CSU: Cleveland State's 2-1 win at Green Bay last Friday was the team's sixth win of the year, setting the school record for wins in a season. The six wins are one more than a year ago when CSU went 5-14-1.
ZINKIEWICH EYES SAVE MARK: With 61 saves this year, sophomore goalkeeper Kelly Zinkiewich has raised her career total to 185, the second-highest total in Cleveland State history. She needs 29 stops to break the record of 210 saves by Erin Withrow (2005-06).
SHUTOUT MILESTONE FOR UDM: In Detroit's 1-0 shutout over Wright State last Friday, senior goalkeeper Katie Fortenberry recorded her 23rd career shutout and moved into a first-place tie on the school's all-time career list with former UDM netminder Alison Dube (2001-04).
DETROIT AIMING FOR ANOTHER WINNING SEASON: With a win this weekend, Detroit could clinch its first winning season since 2005, when the team went 10-4-5. The Titans would also finish with a winning conference record for the third time in the last four years.
LOYOLA SHOOTING FOR NO. 1: Loyola can clinch the top seed of the 2008 Horizon League Championship with a win at home against Youngstown State this weekend. If the Ramblers can't get past YSU, they will need Milwaukee to lose once in its final two matches. The Ramblers hold the tiebreaker over the Panthers by virtue of their 1-0 win on Oct. 3.
MOROTE-ARIZA APPEARS IN NCAA RANKINGS: Loyola junior Cynthia Morote-Ariza recorded two goals and an assist in two matches last week, pulling her into a tie for 13th nationally in points per game (2.00). Her total of 16 assists is the highest in the nation. In addition, Morote-Ariza currently leads the Horizon League in points (38) and shots (67). She has scored at least one point in nine of Loyola's last 10 contests.
HOME SWEET HOME FOR VALPARAISO: Valparaiso set a school record this season with seven home victories. Both of the Crusaders' Horizon League wins (YSU, CSU) were at home. In part because of its 7-2-0 record at home, Valpo is assured of its fifth consecutive winning season.
CABRAL SETS SHUTOUTS RECORD: Valpo goalkeeper Mele Cabral extended her own school record last weekend, posting her eighth shutout of the season in the Crusaders' 2-0 win over Cleveland State last Sunday. Cabral has 10 career clean sheets.
DRUSCH APPEARS IN NATIONAL RANKINGS: Green Bay goalkeeper Maddie Drusch made nine saves in two matches last weekend, and now the freshman ranks 18th in the nation with 6.77 saves per contest. Her total of 88 saves is second in the Horizon League.
PHOENIX TRADING PLACES: Sophomore Chelsea Lyons is a versatile athlete. Not only is she Green Bay's leading soccer scorer, but she is also a member of the Phoenix women's basketball team. She used that versatility last weekend, scoring a goal against Cleveland State Friday as a forward before moving to defense and helping Green Bay defeat Butler, 2-1.
PANTHERS APPEAR IN THE RANKINGS: Milwaukee, now 13-2-2 and winners of four straight matches, currently appears in several of the major women's soccer national polls. Here is a breakdown of where Milwaukee is ranked this week:

HAGEN AMONG NATION'S BEST: UWM freshman Sarah Hagen, a two-time Horizon League Women's Soccer Player of the Week, is one of just five players in the nation with at least 17 goals. She is tied for eighth in the country in goals per game (1.00) and 10th in points per game (2.12). She added to those stats last weekend, recording a goal in Milwaukee's 5-0 win over Butler last Friday.
DYNAMIC SCORING DUO AT WSU: Wright State's Amber Kasmer and Jess Rooma are each tied for fifth in the Horizon League with 16 points. Kasmer has seven goals and two assists, while Rooma has six goals and four assists. Kasmer is also fourth in the conference in shots (53).
SNYDER SAVES: Youngstown State freshman goalkeeper Mariah Snyder stopped 14 shots last weekend and now leads the Horizon League with 119 saves. Snyder's average of 7.44 saves per game leads the Horizon League and ranks 11th in the nation.
