Player of the Week
Stacey Faude, UW-Milwaukee, Sophomore, Midfielder, Waukesha, Wis.
Faude was an offensive catalyst in the Panthers' 2-0 record this week. On Oct. 13, she assisted on a pair of goals in the first seven minutes of UWM's 3-0 win at Loyola, including the game-winner. On Oct. 17, Faude scored the game-winning goal in the 108th minute of Milwaukee's 1-0 win over Butler.

Megan Cappa, Butler, Sophomore, Goalkeeper, Fairfield, Ohio
Sophomore goalie Megan Cappa posted a goals against average of 1.01 in two matches last week, leading the Bulldogs to an important road league win and nearly knocking off league-leading UW-Milwaukee. In Friday's win over UW-Green Bay, Cappa made five saves in more than 70 minutes of action, leading the team to a 2-1 win. Two days later in Milwaukee, Cappa shut the Panthers out for 107 minutes and made four saves before the Panthers got through with a golden goal. For the season, Cappa boasts a 0.69 GAA and .870 save percentage.
Mary Parker, Detroit, Sophomore, Midfielder, Troy, Mich.
Parker scored her fifth game-winning goal of the season in the Titans' 2-0 win over Wright State on Oct. 15. Her rocket from 22 yards out with just 35 seconds left in the first half, gave the Titans their fourth straight win overall and kept them perfect in the league at 5-0. Parker also picked up the assist on the game's second goal to bring her league- leading point total to 36. She currently owns 16 goals and four assists on the season.
Heather Sorgatz, Loyola, Senior, Defender, Wheaton, Ill.
Heather Sorgatz celebrated Senior Day at Loyola Soccer Park by scoring the lone goal against Wright State to claim the victory. Her 25-yard free kick landed just above the goalie in the right top corner of the net.
Allison Brunner, UW-Green Bay, Senior, Defender, De Pere, Wis.
Brunner tallied her first collegiate goal in UW-Green Bay's contest with Butler Oct. 15. Brunner tapped in a loose ball from short range off a set piece to give the defender her first goal in 61 games as a Phoenix.
Maddie Lawther, Youngstown State, Sophomore, Midfielder, Moundsville, W.V.
Lawther helped lift head coach Anthony James and YSU to its first win of the season by netting one goal and dishing out two assists in a 3-1 win over Cleveland State on Oct. 17. The goal was the first for Lawther this year. For the season, she has started in 13 games for the Penguins and has taken 20 shots and earned four points.
Notes and Quotes
Butler Bulldogs (5-8-2, 3-3-0)
Butler's match against Cleveland State (Oct. 24) will end the Horizon League portion of the 2004 schedule.
Twelve of the Bulldogs' 15 matches this season have ended either in a tie or in a one-goal decision.
The Bulldogs will host the 2004 Horizon League Championships, Nov. 4-7.
Cleveland State Vikings (0-15, 0-4)
Before she came to Cleveland State this fall, freshman Amber Rasmussen amassed an amazing total of 139 goals during her four seasons playing at Bristol High School in North Bloomfield, Ohio. It took her 15 matches, but she finally put her first marker on the scoreboard as a Viking, scoring from 15-yards out early in the second half against Youngstown State (Oct. 17). Rasmussen, who assisted on each of the first two Viking goals this year, shares the team scoring lead with four points.
With 14 of the 21 players on the CSU roster being classified as freshmen, the Vikings never find themselves without an abundance of rookies on the field. In fact, in the 15 matches this year, CSU's non-freshmen have combined to start just 32 times (out of a possible 165). CSU has started 10 freshmen three times this year, including in each of the last two matches. Senior Katie Burke, the lone non-freshmen in the lineup, has played in all three contests.
Detroit Titans (9-4-1, 5-0-0)The Titans are 7-1-1 in their last nine games, including wins in their last four.
Last week, sophomore Mary Parker made her mark as she was tied for second in the nation in total goals and is just four goals away from tying the single season school record for goals.
Senior Mandi Jasky has doubled her point total from last season with 12 thus far in 2004. A year ago, the defender from Troy, Mich. had just six assists. This year she has posted three goals and a league-leading six assists.
The move of sophomore Kathy Banjavcic from the back line to a forward position for the Titans' game against Wright State (Oct. 15), proved a smart one by head coach Mike Lupenec as she scored her second goal in as many games to help keep Detroit undefeated in the league.
Loyola Ramblers (6-6-2, 2-3-0)
Heather Sorgatz celebrated Senior Day by scoring the lone goal against Wright State (Oct. 17), while Heather Joseph started in net to record seven saves and a shutout. This week, Loyola will play host to UW-Green Bay on Oct. 19.
UW-Green Bay Phoenix (3-8-2, 1-2-1)
UW-Green Bay suffered its fourth one-goal loss of the year at Phoenix Field with the team's 2-1 setback to Butler Oct. 15.
After two straight weeks with one game on the slate, the Phoenix has a three-game week ahead. UW-Green Bay will head to Loyola Oct. 19 and Wisconsin Oct. 24 along with a home game against Detroit Oct. 22.
UW-Milwaukee Panthers (8-6-2, 6-0-0)
In addition to being unbeaten in their last eight games (7-0-1), the Panthers have tied a school record, shutting out four straight opponents. The feat has been accomplished three times before, most recently twice during the 2001 season.
Milwaukee's match with Detroit on Oct. 24, at Engelmann Field will decide the regular-season league champion and determine the top seed in the league tournament. UWM is guaranteed one of the top two seeds for the seventh time in 11 years of league play.
Wright State Raiders (7-7-1, 3-3-1)
After suffering two league losses last week, Wright State will host Ball State on Oct. 22 for a non-conference tilt. Two days later, the Raiders will travel to Fort Wayne, Ind. where they will take on the Mastodons of IPFW.
Youngstown State Penguins (1-14-1, 1-6-0)
Anthony James picked up his first Division I win as head coach on Oct. 17. It was the Penguins first win since Oct. 30, 2003.
Sophomore Katie Duracky tied the school-record for most shots in a game with 12 against Cleveland State. She also scored her third goal of the season. Duracky continues to lead the Penguins with 53 shots and 3 goals.
Youngstown State looks to end its regular-season on a high note on Oct. 22 when they host Villanova at 7:00 p.m. at Stambaugh Stadium. The last time YSU had consecutive wins was in the 1999 season. Villanova is 10-5-1 overall this year.
