Player of the Week
Lisa Conway, Cleveland State
Sophomore * Midfielder * Cincinnati, Ohio
Conway scored a goal and set a CSU record with three assists in the win over Delaware State. She set up Shayna Back's goal just 5:00 into the contest and then scored in the 24th minute to give CSU a 2-0 lead. She assisted on a pair of Ashley Walchack second half markers. Her three assists allowed her to become the first player in CSU history to have more than one assist in a game and tie her own school record for assists in a season.

Other Top Performances from the week of Aug. 27

Louise Vraney, UW-Milwaukee
Freshman * Forward * DePere, Wis.
Vraney scored three goals in her first weekend of college action. She became the second Panther to score two goals in her collegiate debut when she tallied both UWM scores in a 2-0 win over Sacred Heart. Vraney finished with a game-high five shots, all on goal. Sunday, she added another goal, becoming the first Milwaukee player to score three goals over her first two college matches.

Brittny Humphrey, Youngstown State
Junior * Defender * Liberty, Ohio
Humphrey scored the Penguins' only goal in the opening weekend. In the 78th minute against Robert Morris, Humphrey found the back of the net on a feed from freshman Kate Bonn. She notched three shots in the match.

Kirby Zwickel, Butler
Junior * Goalie * Indianapolis, Ind.
Zwickel played all 180 minutes last weekend, earning her first shutout and first victory of 2006 with Butler's victory over WKU on Sunday. She turned away 13 shots in the two matches and has a .867 save percentage on the campaign.

Ashley Walchack, Cleveland State
Sophomore * Midfielder * Erie, Pa.
Walchack scored three second-half goals in the Vikings' only match of the week, equaling the school record for goals (3) and points (6) in season and setting the school single-game records in both as well. She fired six shots on net and is tied with UWM's Louise Vraney for the League's scoring lead.

Lotte Rasmussen, UW-Green Bay
Junior * Forward * Samsoe, Denmark
Rasmussen's 40-yarder in overtime lifted the Phoenix to its first win over Illinois State since 1997, ending a seven-game slide to the regional power. Her goal marked her second in a Phoenix uniform and also gave UW-Green Bay its first season-opening victory since 1996.

Cynthi Morote-Ariza , Loyola
Freshman * Forward * Chicago, Ill.
Morote-Ariza gave Loyola an immediate boost in her first week of competition, finishing with a goal and an assist to lead the Ramblers to wins over Xavier and Valparaiso last week. The Chicago native scored on a 20-yard free kick in her debut to break a 1-1 tie and give LU a 2-1 win over Xavier in the season-opener and helped set up Mary Dale's first-half goal in the 1-0 win over Valpo on Sunday afternoon.

Steph Comisar , Wright State
Senior * Goalie * West Chester, Ohio
Comisar was solid for the Raiders in their season debut at No. 25 Nebraska on Friday. She stopped seven shots on the way to a 1-1 draw. Facing 15 shots, Comisar's lone goal allowed was on a rebound after making the initial save. She was able to shut down the Cornhusker offense over the final 73:42 to force the tie.

Horizon League Notes

UW-Milwaukee (2-0-0)
UWM continued its 2005 late-season success with impressive defense and solid goaltending that yielded two shut out victories over the weekend. On Friday, the Panthers got two goals from freshman Louise Vraney en route to a 2-0 win over Sacred Heart. Freshman Ilana Bar-Av started in net, but did not face any shots as the defense kept the SHU offense at bay.

Sunday was more of the same for UW-Milwaukee as the team posted a 3-0 over Bowling Green. Bar-Av notched her second-straight shutout with four saves in the contest. Vraney found the twine again in the 61st minute after freshman Erin Kreuser and senior Taylor Powell tallied in the 29th and 54th minute, respectively.

The Panthers begin the season 2-0-0 for the first time since 1997 and will look to remain unbeaten as they face Portland and Washington at the Husky Invitational this weekend.

Detroit (0-1-0)
Detroit played one time last weekend, dropping a 2-0 decision at Eastern Kentucky. The Titans outshot the Colonials 20-10 and forced the EKU goalie to make 13 saves. Freshmen Jenny Whaley (three shots) and Andrea DiPace (two shots) made an impact in their first collegiate match.

UDM will look to senior Mary Parker to provide some offense as the club travels to Central Michigan this week. When Parker scores, the Titans are 15-1-1.

UW-Green Bay (1-0-0)
The Phoenix got its season off to a positive start with a golden goal from junior Lotte Rasmussen in a 1-0 overtime victory over Illinois State. Rasmussen blasted a 40-yard shot over an out-of-position Redbirds' netminder to give UWGB its first season-opening victory since 1996 while snapping a seven-game losing streak against Missouri Valley Conference competition. The Phoenix was outshot 15-10 by ISU, but got a combined seven saves from junior Brooke Wikgren (two saves in 45:00) and Charla Buxbaum (five saves in 51:17).

UW-Green Bay travels to Reno, Nevada to take part in the University of Nevada Tournament. The Phoenix will face Nevada on Friday night and Weber State on Sunday.

Wright State (0-0-1)
The Raiders traveled to Lincoln, Neb., and tied the Cornhuskers, 1-1, in the team's only game last week. WSU cracked the scoreboard early as Megan Mattioda blasted a free kick from 35 yards past the Nebraska goalie in the 15th minute. Netminder Steph Comisar came up with seven saves in 110 minutes of action.

Wright State plays three times this week. The team travels to Ohio on Monday before taking part in the University of Kentucky Invitational on Friday and Sunday with games against Louisville and Eastern Kentucky.

Butler (1-1-0)
Butler split a pair of contests last weekend, earning third place at the Boilermaker Challenge Cup in West Lafayette, Ind. The Bulldogs lost their first match 2-0 at the hands of San Diego State on Friday night. The team was outshot 24-9 by the Aztecs and managed only three shots on goal.

On Sunday, the Bulldogs rebounded with a 2-0 victory over Western Kentucky, giving first-year head coach Tari St. John her first career victory. Senior Marianne Schilling got the scoring started by putting a Molly Callon cross past the WKU netminder. Jenny Southard then added an insurance marker on a breakaway in the 58th minute. Julie Backsheider and Southard both earned a spot on the all-tournament team.

Butler's only game this week is the team's home-opener against Miami (Ohio) on Sunday afternoon.

Loyola (2-0-0)
The Ramblers got off to a fast start with two victories in the opening week of the season. On Friday, Loyola came from behind against Xavier to record a 2-1 victory. The Musketeers struck first with a goal in the 25th minute, but junior Amy Lomas answered 12 minutes later to knot the score going into half time. Freshman Cynthi Morote-Ariza scored the game-deciding goal on a free kick from just outside the box to give the Ramblers the victory.

LU traveled to future League foe Valparaiso on Sunday and came away with a 1-0 win. Senior Mary Dale netted her 19th career goal (tied for second on Loyola's career charts) off assists from freshman Jackie Vera and Morote-Ariza. Senior netminder Emily Peick turned away all four shots on net for her first shutout of the year.

This week, the Ramblers attempt to remain unbeaten as they travel to Creighton on Friday and Eastern Illinois on Sunday.

Youngstown State (0-2-0)
YSU struggled in the opening week of action with losses to Robert Morris, 3-1, and Northern Michigan, 1-0.

The lone goal for Youngstown State on the week was a Brittny Humphrey tally in the 71st minute against RMU. In the two games, the team had 20 shots with Sade Tate recording a team-best five.

The Penguins host Canisius on Friday and travel to St. Francis (Pa.) on Sunday in their two matchups this week.

Cleveland State (1-0-0)
CSU notched the program's first victory last week with a 6-0 win over Delaware State. The triumph snapped a 39-game winless streak since the program's inception.

The Vikings scored early and often in the affair with Shayna Back finding the net just five minutes into the match. She added a second goal 11 minutes later and Lisa Conway netted another one before the half. The second half belonged to sophomore Ashley Walchack as she beat the Hornet goal keeper three times. Conway, who set up Back's first goal and two of Walchack's goals, tied the single-season assist mark at CSU and set the single-game record with three helpers.

The Vikings will look to continue their winning ways against Kent State on Monday before facing Valparaiso and IUPUI over the weekend.

Valparaiso (1-1-0)
Tiffania Guisti got VU's season off to a good start with a golden goal in the seventh minute of overtime in a 2-1 victory at Indiana State. The goal, which was off of a set corner kick, was Guisti's first of her career.

The Crusaders then took the field against future League opponent Loyola on Sunday and were set back 1-0. Goalie Erin Murray saved nine shots in the contest, but a goal in the 20th minute proved to be the difference. VU held an 8-6 edge in corner kicks, even though the team was outshot 20-6 in the match.
