Player of the Week

Steph Comisar, Wright State
Senior * Goalie * West Chester, Ohio
Comisar played all 290:00 for the Raiders this week, going 2-0-1 in the process. The senior turned aside 14 shots and posted two shutouts during the week. She made seven saves in a clean sheet against Soccer Buzz Great Lakes Region #5 Louisville. The West Chester, Ohio, native pushed her scoreless streak to 216:44 with a three-save shutout against Eastern Kentucky on Sunday. On the season, Comisar is second in the League in goals-against average (0.45 GAA) and is tied for second in saves (21).

Other Top Performances from the week of Sept. 3

Kate Megna, UW-Milwaukee
Freshman * Midfielder * Middleton, Wis.
Megna led the Panthers to a second-place finish at the Husky Invitational. In a pair of starts, she tallied a goal and an assist on three shots. Megna's goal gave UWM a 2-1 lead against defending national champion Portland. At host Washington, she assisted on the Panthers' insurance goal in their 2-0 win.

Caitlin Bodzioney, Youngstown State
Freshman * Goalie * Avon Lake, Ohio
Bodzioney played an instrumental role in Friday night's shutout against Canisius. The Freshman goalkeeper totaled 11 saves in the match, delivering the Penguins their first win of the season.

Angie Muir, Butler
Sophomore * Midfielder * Carmel, Ind.
Muir led the Bulldog attack against Miami (Ohio), scoring an unassisted, break-away goal against the RedHawks. The tally was one of three shots she took on the day, which sets her League-high shot total at 16 for the season.

Lotte Rasmussen, UW-Green Bay
Junior * Forward * Samsoe, Denmark
Rasmussen tallied a goal in UW-Green Bay's 4-2 setback to Weber State Sept. 3. The goal, a 25-yard free kick, gives her two of UW-Green Bay's three goals this season.

Cynthi Morote-Ariza , Loyola
Freshman * Forward * Chicago, Ill.
Morote-Ariza scored two late goals to lead Loyola past Creighton, 2-1 (OT), on the road in Omaha, Neb. Morote-Ariza struck in the final moments of regulation time, finding the back of the net in the 86th minute to pull the Ramblers even before hitting the game-winner in the 105th minute to stun a crowd of 1,120.

Shayna Back, Cleveland State
Junior * Midfielder * North Olmsted, Ohio
A defender for most of her first two seasons, Back did not score a point despite starting 34 matches in her first two years. This year has been a different story as she leads the team in scoring, having at least one point in every match this year. She had CSU's only goal against Kent State and IUPUI, and assisted on the only goal at Valpo last week. Back has already set CSU season records for goals (4) and points (9).

Horizon League Notes

Wright State (2-0-2)
WSU remained unbeaten by going 2-0-1 last week. In the Raiders' first game on Monday night, they found the offensive touch and piled in four goals against Ohio. A pair of midfielders led the attack as Megan Bush recorded her first two goals of her collegiate career while Desire Morris had a goal and an assist.

The club then faced off against the Soccer Buzz Great Lakes Region #5 team in Louisville and played the Cardinals to a 0-0 draw at the University of Kentucky Invitational. On Sunday, WSU found the scoring touch again and put three goals past the Eastern Kentucky netminder on the way to a 3-0 victory.

Senior Steph Comisar played all 290:00 for the Raiders, giving up one goal and making 14 saves.

WSU will take the field twice this week with Kent State coming to Dayton on Friday and then the team travels to Duquesne on Sunday.

UW-Milwaukee (3-1-0)
UWM earned a second-place finish at the Husky Invitational last weekend after splitting a pair of games. On Friday night the Panthers got two goals late in the first half, giving them a 2-1 edge over defending national champion Portland. The Pilots came out strong in the second half and scored two unanswered goals with the last coming in the 82nd minute. The loss was the first of UW-Milwaukee's season, but saw freshman Louise Vraney continue her early-season success with another goal. She is currently tied for the League-lead with four goals on the campaign.

The Panthers got back to business Sunday as the team posted a 2-0 victory over host Washington. After a scoreless first stanza, sophomore Beth Steuer found the net in the 63rd minute for the first goal of her collegiate career. Classmate Bailey Briggs gave UWM an insurance marker 11 minutes later. 2005 First-Team All-League selection Erin Kane made five saves en route to her first shutout of the season.

The Panthers' 3-1-0 record is the best mark since 1997 and the team will look to improve on that as they face Rhode Island and Indiana at the Hoosier Classic in Bloomington, Ind. this weekend.

Loyola (3-1-0)
The Ramblers got the week off right with a 2-1, double-overtime victory over Missouri Valley preseason favorite Creighton. Freshman Cynthi Morote-Ariza knotted the game at one with a marker in the 86th minute off a feed from Casey Berrier. She then found the twine again on a shot from 14 yards out in the second overtime session to give Loyola the 2-1 win.

The Ramblers would need overtime once more in their second game of the week. Eastern Illinois tied the game in the 50th minute to force the extra time, but this time LU would not be as lucky with EIU tallying a goal in the 106th minute.

This week, the Ramblers face two Big Ten opponents in Purdue and Iowa, then travel to Missouri to round out the week.

Butler (2-1-0)
An Angie Muir goal in the seventh minute was all Butler needed to secure a 1-0 win in the team's home opener on Sunday. The Bulldogs were outshot 11-7 in the contest, but junior goalkeeper Kirby Zwickel turned aside the one shot on net for her second shutout of 2006.

BU will go to Annapolis, Md. this weekend to take on Villanova and host Navy at the Chesapeake Challenge.

UW-Green Bay (1-2-0)
The Phoenix lost twice at the University of Nevada Invitational this weekend. UWGB lost 1-0 against host Nevada on Friday night after being outshot 15-5. Phoenix goalkeeper Brooke Wikgren made nine saves in the game keeping the team close, but the Wolf Pack defense stimied the club's offense.

On Sunday, UWGB scored a season-high two goals in a 4-2 loss to Weber State. In a contest full of offense, the Phoenix was outshot 20-13. Junior Lotte Rasmussen tallied her second goal of the season on a 25-yard free kick.

UW-Green Bay welcomes Northern Illinois and Western Illinois this week as the team plays its final five games before conference action at the friendly confines of Santaga Stadium.

Detroit (0-2-0)
Detroit dropped a 1-0 decision at Central Michigan in the team's lone game last week. The Titans were outshot by the Chippewas 12-11. Mary Parker (four shots) and Nicole Gipson (two shots) led the UDM attack. The loss was Detroit's first to a Mid-American Conference opponent since the season opener (Aug. 28) in 2004 when the team lost 1-0 to Ball State.

The Titans continue their tour of the MAC with games at Eastern Michigan on Tuesday and the 2006 home opener against Toledo on Friday.

Youngstown State (1-3-0)
YSU split a pair of games this week, defeating Canisius, 1-0, and falling to St. Francis (Pa.), 2-0.

Against Canisius, the Penguins shut out the Griffins behind a solid goaltending effort from freshman Caitlin Bodzioney. She had 11 saves in the contest as Youngstown State was outshot 21-8. The team's lone goal on the week came from freshman Jordan Gapczynski off a pass by Keely Rice.

Sunday wasn't as kind to the Penguins with St. Francis posting a 2-0 victory behind two early goals.

The Penguins go to Bowling Green on Friday and then travel to Kent State on Sunday in their two matchups this week.

Cleveland State (1-3-0)
CSU dropped all three contests this week. Monday evening, the Vikings took a 1-1 tie into overtime, but Kent State buried a goal in the 104th minute of overtime. Shayna Back tallied the only goal for Cleveland State.

Future League foe Valpo hosted the Vikings on Friday evening and sent them home with a 4-1 loss. It was a tale of two halves as CSU went into halftime 1-1, but then saw the Crusaders score three unanswered markers.

In the team's final game, the Vikings once again went into half tied, but saw IUPUI jump on them with two goals in the first four minutes of the second stanza en route to a 2-1 win. Back's fourth goal of the campaign was all the CSU attack could muster.

Cleveland State heads to Mobile, Ala. to take part in the South Alabama Tournament this weekend. The team will face Nicholls State on Friday and host South Alabama on Sunday.

Valparaiso (2-2-0)
Valpo went 1-1 this week as the Crusaders downed Cleveland State on Friday, 4-1, then lost to Akron, 1-0, on Sunday.

Against CSU, four different Valpo players beat the Viking netminder with Lori Johnson leading the charge with a goal and an assist.

The team travels to Belmont (Friday) and Lipscomb (Sunday) this weekend.
