Player of the Week

Erin Kane, UW-Milwaukee
Sophomore * Goalie * St. Charles, Ill.
Kane led the Panthers to a 2-0-1 record last week, shutting out all three opponents and tallying an assist. She made seven saves in shutting out Marquette Tuesday, Kentucky through two overtimes Friday and #16 Missouri Sunday. Against Mizzou, she had three saves and assisted on the game's lone goal. It was UWM's first win over a ranked opponent since 1998.

Other Top Performances from the week of Sept. 17

Jennie Gorwitz, UW-Green Bay
Junior * Forward * Appleton, Wis.
Gorwitz posted one of the highest offensive outputs by a single player in Phoenix history Friday night as the junior tallied her first career hat trick along with an assist in UW-Green Bay's 4-1 win over Northern Iowa. Gorwitz assisted on the first goal of the night and proceeded to rattle off three straight scores to aid the Phoenix in keeping its undefeated home mark (3-0-1).

Mary Parker, Detroit
Senior * Midfielder * Troy, Mich.
Parker scored her first goal of the season and added an assist in the Titans' 2-1 win over Saginaw Valley State. She scored the game's first goal just four minutes into the match then added an assist on Alex Moraca's game-winner in the 42nd minute.

Emily Peick , Loyola
Senior * Goalie * Mendota Heights, Minn.
Senior keeper Emily Peick entered the Loyola women's soccer record book in Friday night's 2-0 shutout of IPFW, becoming the school's all-time leader in shutouts. The clean sheet brought Peick's career-total to 15.5, surpassing Erica Pedini's previous mark of 15 set between 1999-2002. For the season, Peick has allowed just nine goals in eight matches (1.05 GAA).

Amy Miller, Wright State
Sophomore * Midfielder * Springfield, Ohio
Miller tallied three times as the Raiders had a perfect 2-0-0 week. She found the net twice, including the game-winner, in a 4-2 victory over Eastern Illinois on Friday. Miller responded Sunday with her third goal of the week and fifth on the season in WSU's shutout of Bowling Green. Friday night's game was the second time that she has turned in a multi-goal effort this season -- the other coming in Wright State's 3-0 victory over Eastern Kentucky at the UK Invitational on Sept. 3.

Angie Muir, Butler
Sophomore * Midfielder * Carmel, Ind.
Muir found the back of the net three times last week with Butler's only goal against Ball State on Thursday and two markers in the team's victory over Eastern Kentucky on Sunday. The sophomore midfielder has a team-best four goals this season.

Jordan Gapczynski, Youngstown State
Freshman * Midfielder * Wexford, Pa.
Gapczynski had a total of six shots and two goals in the weekends match-ups at The Citadel adidas Soccer Classic. She now leads the team with three goals on the season.

Horizon League Notes

Wright State (6-0-2)
WSU extended its unbeaten streak to eight games by going 2-0-0 last week. In the Raiders' game versus Eastern Illinois on Friday night, sophomores Amy Miller and Jess Rooma each had a pair of goals in a 4-2 victory.

On Sunday, Miller and Rooma were at it against with Miller tallying her third goal of the weekend and Rooma setting up the team's second strike as the Raiders topped Bowling Green 3-0.

Senior goaltender Steph Comisar came up with three saves in the BG game, earning her third shutout of the year and 18th of her career (third on the WSU all-time charts).

The Raiders have outscored their opponents 22-5 this season and have allowed more than one goal on only one occasion.

This week WSU welcomes IUPUI to Dayton, Ohio, on Friday and travels to Loyola on Sunday for the League's first loop game of 2006.

UW-Milwaukee (6-2-1)
UWM went 2-0-1 this week, allowing no goals and only seven shots on goal in the three contests. The week started as the team handed crosstown rival Marquette a 2-0 loss as Sarah Teegarden and Beth Steuer found the back of the net for the Panthers.

UW-Milwaukee played 110:00 of scoreless soccer against Kentucky on Friday with the teams combining for only 13 shots (UWM with nine) in the game. The Panthers came out tough against Missouri on Sunday and tallied in the 13th minute of the game. That goal, Jodi Klagos' first of the campaign, would prove to be the difference in the 1-0 victory over the #16 Tigers.

Sophomore netminder Erin Kane played all 290:00 in the goal, notching three shutouts. In 28 career games, she has recorded 18 shutouts and in seven contests this year she has turned in five clean sheets.

This week the Panthers play their lone game at home against South Dakota State on Sunday.

Loyola (4-3-1)
The Ramblers posted a 2-0 victory over IPFW in their only game last week.

Freshman Cynthia Morote-Ariza tallied two assists in the contest to give her 13 points this year, leaving her just six points shy of Mandy Brettingen's freshman record of 19. Mary Dale was the recipient of one helper and now stands alone in second place on LU's career goals list. She is seven shy of all-time mark (Melissa Eckerle - 27).

Senior Emily Peick made four saves in the complete game, shutout effort. With the shutout, she is now Loyola's all-time leader in shutouts with 15.5.

The Ramblers go to Drake on Friday this week and then welcome Wright State to Chicago, Ill., for the first League game of 2006.

Butler (3-4-0)
Butler split its two contests last week with a 2-1 loss to in-state rival Ball State and a 4-1 win at Eastern Kentucky. Sophomore Angie Muir provided the Bulldogs lone tally against the Cardinals on Thursday.

BU ended its three-game skid with the victory over EKU on Sunday. Muir found the net two more times, giving her a team-high four goals and eight points in 2006. Kenzie Kokta and Abbie Kaul each added their first tally of the year.

The Bulldogs make the trip to Cincinnati this week to face Xavier in the team's lone game of the week.

UW-Green Bay (3-2-1)
The Phoenix was victorious in its only game last week, a 4-1 win over Northern Iowa at home Friday.

UWGB junior forward Jennie Gorwitz had a hand in each goal, finding the net three times and setting up one more. Senior Stephanie Gross chipped in with her third assist and ninth point of the season on Gorwitz's final marker.

UW-Green Bay held the edge in shots (24-8) and corner kicks (8-2), while allowing only one shot on goal.

The team plays two home games this week with South Dakota State and IPFW both traveling to Green Bay, Wis.

Detroit (2-4-0)
Detroit split a pair of contests last week, falling on the road at Michigan State, 1-0, and staying perfect at home with a 2-1 victory over Saginaw Valley State.

The Titans outshot the Spartans on Tuesday evening, 10-8, but were unable to match an MSU tally in the 57th minute. On Sunday, UDM came out quick with a goal by Mary Parker in the fourth minute of their match against Saginaw Valley. After the game was tied up in the 42nd minute, Alex Moraca provided the game-deciding goal off a pass from Parker. UDM is 16-1-2 when Parker finds the twine.

Detroit makes the trip to Honolulu, Hawaii to participate in the OHANA Hotels and Resorts Soccer Invitational this weekend, facing host-Hawaii on Friday and Cal State Northridge on Sunday.

Youngstown State (2-6-0)
The Penguins went 1-1-0 last week with a 2-1 loss to Francis Marion and a 3-2 victory over The Citadel at The Citadel Adidas Soccer Classic in Charleston, S.C.

Freshmen Jodi Bowlen and Caitlin Bodzioney along with sophomores Alex Lee and Keely Rice earned All-Tournament Team honors. Bowlen notched her first collegiate goal against The Citadel, while Bodzioney made 15 saves on the weekend. Freshman Jordan Gapczynski had a marker in each contest for YSU, giving her a team-best three this season.

The Penguins have this week off and will face Valparaiso at home when they take the field next on Sept. 29.

Cleveland State (1-7-0)
Cleveland State came out on the short end in both of its contests this week. Akron topped the Vikings on Friday, 1-0, with a goal in the 34th minute to give the team its third-straight 1-0 loss, while Cincinnati handed CSU a 3-0 setback on Sunday.

Sophomore netminder Erin Withrow made three saves against the Zips before turning away a season-best nine shots against the Bearcats.

Cleveland State hosts Indiana State in its only game this week.

Valparaiso (6-2-0)
Valpo went 2-0-0 last week to improve to 6-2-0 on the season, the best start in school history. The Crusaders started their conference schedule off on Friday with a 1-0, overtime victory against Western Illinois. Junior Brittany Derksen had the golden tally in the 96th minute off an assist by Lori Johnson.

Northern Iowa visited VU on Sunday and was turned away with a 4-0 loss. Johnson found the net for her fourth marker of 2006, while Sarah Jewell, Jackie Kondratko and Jackie Thomas also added goals in the win. Valpo held a 16-4 advantage in shots and Erin Murray (73:04) and Mele Cabral (16:56) combined for the clean sheet.

The Crusaders are at home this week with matches against Oral Roberts on Friday and Evansville on Sunday.
