Player of the Week

Erin Kane, UW-Milwaukee
Sophomore * Goalie * St. Charles, Ill.
Kane made five saves to post a shutout in UWM's only match of the week, a 4-0 win at Wright State. She tallied her school-record 20th career shutout in just her 30th career game. Kane has posted a clean sheet against each of her last five opponents and owns a 536:53 shutout streak.

Stephanie Gross, UW-Green Bay
Senior * Forward * Fond du Lac, Wis.
Gross had two goals on the week, including the game-winner at Youngstown State on Sunday to keep the Phoenix undefeated in Horizon League play. Gross also scored the first goal of UW-Green Bay's draw at Wright State on Friday night.

Marianne Schilling, Butler
Senior * Midfielder * West Chester, Ohio
Schilling was the star in Butler's 7-1 win over Cleveland State on Sunday, notching a hat-trick for six points. She gave the Bulldogs their first score against the Vikings with a goal just over five minutes into the game before netting two more in the second half. She is second on the team with eight points coming off four goals.

Caitlin Bodzioney, Youngstown State
Freshman * Goalie * Avon Lake, Ohio
Bodzioney tied her career high with 11 saves in Friday's match against Valparaiso and had an impressive 10 saves on Sunday against UW-Green Bay. She leads the League with 7.40 saves per contest and ranked 28th in the nation according to the Sept. 25 NCAA Statistics Report.

Mary Parker, Detroit
Senior * Midfielder * Troy, Mich.
Parker scored four goals, including the game-winner in Detroit's win over Cleveland State on Friday. She also added an assist in the match. Of her 13 shots in the match, six were on net and four eluded the Vikings' netminder.

Jen Hansen, Wright State
Junior * Forward * Centerville, Ohio
Hansen played part in both Raiders goals this weekend, assisting on the first goal and tallying the second goal late in the game against UWGB. Hansen headed a crossing pass to the feet of Nicole Amador to set up the Raiders' first marker versus the Phoenix. Late in the second half Hansen stuck again, this time controlling a crossing pass and beating the UWGB keeper to knot the game at two goals apiece.

Katie Heidenreich, Loyola
Junior * Forward * St. Louis, Mo.
For the second time in two weeks, Heidenreich came up big in the waning minutes for Loyola, this time blasting an 88th-minute goal to give the Ramblers a 1-0 win at Detroit on Sunday afternoon, their first win in the Motor City since 1998.

Horizon League Notes

Loyola (7-4-2; 2-0-1 HL)
The Ramblers had a solid week on the road in League play last week, earning a 1-0 victory over Detroit on Sunday after playing to a 2-2 draw at Butler on Friday.

Loyola fell behind early in Friday's match as the Bulldogs found the net twice in the first 28 minutes of play. Junior Amy Lomas pulled LU within one as she took a Mary Dale feed and put it home from six yards out. The Ramblers were back at it just 11 minutes later, tying the game up before half on a Casey Berrier header off a corner kick. Senior netminder Emily Peick turned away five shots in the contest as Loyola outshot Butler 21-13.

The Ramblers notched their second conference victory and their League-best seventh point when they traveled to Detroit for a 1-0 victory. The only tally of the game came in the 88th minute as junior Katie Hedenreich buried a shot from the left side. The Loyola offense once against held the advantage in shots, 21-9, and Peick came up with six saves in the shutout effort.

LU has a pair of games on the slate this week as the team travels to Cleveland State on Friday before hosting UW-Green Bay on Sunday.

UW-Milwaukee (8-2-1; 1-0-0 HL)
The Panthers and goalkeeper Erin Kane continued their scoreless ways this week, posting the club's fifth-straight shutout in a 4-0 victory over Wright State.

The sophomore netminder registered her 20th career shutout in the win, passing Kerri St. Aubin (2000-04) and Kathy Hoverman (1995-98) for the UW-Milwaukee shutout record. She currently sits only four shutouts away from the League's record which was set by Alisson Dube at Detroit from 2001-04.

UWM's offense came alive in the team's first League game of the season with a season-best four goals. Senior Molly Duffy, sophomore Jodi Klagos, freshman Erin Kreuser and freshman Louise Vraney all tallied in the match, while seniors Taylor Powell and Stacey Faude added helpers.

The Panthers pushed their shutout streak to 536:53 and are now unbeaten in their last 16 League contests (15-0-1).

This week UWM hosts UW-Green Bay on Wednesday and then travels to Ohio to take on Youngstown State (Friday) and Cleveland State over the weekend.

UW-Green Bay (6-2-2; 1-0-1 HL)
The Phoenix stretched its undefeated to seven games with a 2-2 draw at Wright State on Friday and a 1-0 victory over Youngstown State on Sunday.

On Friday, UW-Green Bay got on the board first as senior Stephanie Gross netted a pass from Sharon Zurbey in the 31st minute. After WSU tied it up before half, the Phoenix took back the advantage in the 56th minute on Jackie Spees' unassisted putback. For the game, UW-Green Bay was outshot 18-13, but held a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.

The Phoenix managed only one goal on Sunday despite outshooting Youngstown State 23-9 in the contest. That goal came off the foot of Gross via a Claire Townsend feed. Junior Brooke Wikgren and sophomore Carla Buxbaum each played 45 minutes in the shutout and now own a combined 1.05 goals-against average this season.

UW-Green Bay travels to UW-Milwaukee for a mid-week game on Wednesday before visiting Chicago to take on Loyola on Sunday.

Butler (4-5-1; 1-0-1 HL)
Butler played to a 2-2 draw against Loyola on Friday afternoon, before posting a 7-1 victory over Cleveland State on Sunday.

The Bulldogs came out strong against the Ramblers on Friday, holding a 2-0 lead after 28 minutes of play, but were unable to hold on as LU tied the game 2-2 before halftime. Sophomore Angie Muir had a goal and an assist in the contest, while freshman Carrie Twyman scored her first goal of the season.

BU found the offensive touch on Sunday with senior Marianne Schilling leading the way with a hat-trick. Muir found the back of the net once again, giving her five goals in the team's last five games. She paces the Bulldogs with 13 points (six goals, one assist) on the campaign. Also, finding the back of the net in the victory were Twyman, freshman Abbie Kaul and sophomore Molly Callon.

This week's schedule has Butler hosting Wright State on Friday and then taking to the road for a Sunday afternoon match.

Detroit (3-8-0; 1-1-0 HL)
The Titans went 1-2-0 last week with 1-0 loses to IUPUI and Loyola and a 7-0 victory over Cleveland State.

A 46th-minute goal proved enough for IUPUI on Tuesday as Detroit couldn't find the back of the net despite holding a 20-7 advantage in shots. Senior Mary Parker led the way with eight shots in the contest.

UDM's offense awoke on Friday night, pouring in seven goals in a 7-0 rout over Cleveland State. After 26 minutes of scoreless action, Parker cracked the scoreboard when she found the back of the net off an Alex Moraca throw-in. Two minutes later Andrea DiPace put one past the Cleveland State netminder off passes from Parker and Melanie Slusher. Parker then finished the three-goals-in-2:51 stretch by finding the twine off a rebound. Parker finished four tallies in the contest putting her fourth on the all-time Detroit charts with 36 for her career, while goalkeeper Katie Fortenberry is now third on the all-time Titan shutout list with her 11th career clean sheet.

The Titans suffered their seventh one-goal loss of the season on Sunday as Loyola netted a goal in the 88th minute for the victory.

Detroit's only game this week is against Butler at Titan Field on Sunday afternoon.

Wright State (7-2-3; 0-2-1 HL)
WSU went 0-1-1 in League action last week with a 2-2 draw against UW-Green Bay on Friday and a 4-0 loss to UW-Milwaukee on Sunday.

The Raiders were playing catch up for most of Friday's match as the team fell behind two different times, but used a goal from freshman Nicole Amador in the first half and a junior Jen Hansen tally in the second half to pull even each time. Senior Steph Comisar turned away four shots in the contest including two in the overtime sessions. She still sits one shutout away from sole possession of first place on WSU's all-time charts.

On Sunday, the Raiders were outshot 20-10 in a 4-0 shutout against UW-Milwaukee. Sophomore Amy Miller led the attack with three shots. Comisar turned away eight shots in the contest and now is in third place in the loop with 5.08 saves per game.

This week WSU makes the trip to Indianapolis to face Butler on Friday afternoon in the team's only match of the week.

Youngstown State (2-8-0; 0-1-0 HL)
The Penguins had a tough week, falling 3-0 to Valparaiso on Friday and 1-0 to UW-Green Bay in their first League game on Sunday.

YSU managed only one shot against the Crusaders. Freshman goalie Caitlin Bodzioney had her second 11-save game of the season as Youngstown State was outshot 26-1.

The team couldn't find the net again on Sunday, but Bodzioney kept it close with 10 saves in the match. The Penguins were outshot 23-9 with freshman Jordan Gapczynski leading the way with three shots.

This week YSU takes on UW-Milwaukee at Stambaugh Stadium on Friday in the team's only game of the week.

Cleveland State (1-11-0; 0-2-0 HL)
Cleveland State dropped three games last week, including its first two League contests of 2006.

Netminder Erin Withrow made 10 saves between the pipes for CSU against Robert Morris on Tuesday, but it wasn't enough as the Vikings fell 2-0.

Cleveland State lost a pair of League games over the weekend with a 7-0 loss at Detroit on Friday and a 7-1 loss at Butler on Sunday. The team's only goal came in the 87th minute against BU as Lisa Conway found the twine on a breakaway. Conway's strike gave Cleveland State 11 goals on the year, surpassing the 10 the club scored in 2005.

The Vikings' offense took a hard hit on Tuesday as sophomore midfielder Ashley Walchack, the team's second-leading scorer with three goals and seven points, broke her leg and will miss the remainder of the season.

With 24 saves last week, Withrow now stands in second in the loop in saves (71) and saves per game (5.92).

CSU hosts Notre Dame (Ohio), Loyola and UW-Milwaukee in the team's three games this week.

Valparaiso (10-2-0; join HL in 2007)
Valpo continued its school-best start moving to 10-2-0 on the year, and is riding a program-record eight-game winning streak.

The Crusaders posted a 3-0 victory over future Horizon League opponent Youngstown State on Friday, outshooting the Penguins 26-1 in the contest. Valparaiso got goals from freshman Sarah Jewell and sophomores Laura Murphy and Reva Van Aartsen, while freshman Jackie Kondratko pitched in two helpers.

VU stayed flawless in Mid-Continent Conference play with a 2-1 victory over Oakland on Sunday. Freshman Jessie White scored the game winner in the 89th minute on an assist from Van Aartsen. Goaltender Erin Murray earned the victory in the contest, turning away four shots.

The Crusaders have two games on the schedule this week, playing at IPFW on Friday and hosting Lewis on Sunday afternoon.
