Chicago, Ill.- The nine-time Horizon League champion University of Illinois at Chicago women's tennis team learned its NCAA Tournament draw this afternoon, as the NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Subcommittee announced that the Flames will face the seventh-seeded University of Southern California in the first round of the 2005 NCAA Women's Tennis Championships.
UIC (13-10, 10-0 Horizon League), winners of their conference championship the past nine seasons and moving on to their seventh straight NCAA Tournament, will meet the Pac-10 runner-up Trojans (16-3, 7-1 Pac-10) on their home courts in Los Angeles on Friday, May 13th.
Match times are to be announced.
The winner of the UIC-USC match-up moves on to the second round to face the winner of the San Diego State (16-10) vs. Arizona State (10-7) dual match. The second round match is scheduled for Saturday, May 14th.
No. 7 USC is the highest-seeded foe ever to face the Flames in the NCAA Tournament. The previous best seed that has faced UIC is ninth-seeded Northwestern in 2001.
More information will be released as it becomes available within the next few days regarding the Flames' trip to Los Angeles and their match against the host Trojans.
