Offensive Player of the Week

Betty Slinger

UW-Green Bay

Junior, Setter, Faribault, Minn.

Slinger continued her remarkable play of late by recording one triple-double while falling a mere one dig shy of another in directing UW-Green Bay to two wins last weekend. She posted match-highs of 16 kills and 32 assists to go along with 18 digs as the Phoenix defeated Butler in four games Friday night. It marked Slinger's third triple-double in the last four matches. She nearly kept the remarkable string alive by tallying 16 kills, 30 assists and nine digs as UW-Green Bay defeated Wright State. Slinger leads NCAA Division I with five triple-doubles this season.

Defensive Player of the Week

Peters continued her strong play in the back row for the Panthers, who again slowed the attack of all three of their opponents this week. Peters started the week with 19 digs at Marquette and then followed that up with 18 digs against Wright State. She also tallied 13 digs in a three-game win over Butler Saturday. For the week, she averaged 4.55 digs per game and opponents hit just .129 against UWM.

Elfering posted a career-high 27 digs in Friday's win over Butler, marking a team season-high for digs in a four-game match and tying the sixth-best effort in school history in a four-game match. Elfering followed up that performance with a team-high 22 digs in Saturday's victory over Wright State.

Moore put together a solid week in helping the Panthers to three wins. She averaged 3.64 kills per game and 0.91 blocks per game while hitting a team-best .410. News From Around the League

UW-Milwaukee (13-5, 6-1 HL)

The Panthers' three wins this past week were sparked by dominating offensive performances. In fact, over the three contests, UWM has collected 202 kills, while its opponents had just 127. In the two League matches, there was an even greater discrepancy, with the Panthers tallying 135 kills to just 74 by their opponents.

Junior Nicole Vilter has been steadily receiving more playing time as the season has gone along, and she is clearly taking advantage of those chances. Vilter entered the match with Wright State in game two and tallied 11 kills and four digs while hitting .304. Then Saturday against Butler, Vilter collected a career-high 14 kills, adding four blocks and five digs while hitting .545.

UIC (13-11, 6-1 HL)

UIC recorded a 2-0 week at home, dropping non-conference foe Bradley (3-0) on Tuesday and cross-town Horizon League rival Loyola in three games on Friday. The Flames moved to 13-11 overall and 6-1 (first-place) in League action.

In two matches, senior Ambria Springer led the Flames on offense with 28 kills, averaging 4.67 per game. Springer also guided UIC at the net, totaling eight blocks (two solo). Junior Amanda Kenny powered the Flames on defense, recording 25 digs (4.17 dpg.)

Freshman Lana Lobdell owned a team-high .600 attack percentage, while posting 14 kills and three blocks for the week. Senior Katie Kozak totaled 73 assists last week, which puts the setter only 16 assists from grabbing first-place in the UIC career record book.

UIC hits the road this week to Ohio and Indiana to challenge Wright State on Oct. 20., followed by a match-up against Butler on Oct. 21.

Cleveland State (14-5, 4-3 HL)

Cleveland State opens the second half of the Horizon League schedule by hosting UW-Milwaukee and UW-Green Bay. The Vikings played five of their first seven League matches on the road.

At 14-5, the Vikings have assured themselves of their fifth consecutive winning season -- the second longest streak in school history. The skein trails only the seven straight winning campaigns from 1972-78.

Cleveland State's win at Youngstown State not only improved its record to 8-0 on Fridays this year, but it was the Vikings' 12th sweep of the season -- matching last year's total.

UW-Green Bay (9-10, 3-4 HL)

Senior Sarah Rauen recorded a combined 35 digs in UW-Green Bay's two wins last week to bring her career total to 1,340, moving her into a tie for second place in school history with Krystle Lange (2000, 2002-04).

The 13 points allowed by the Phoenix in the fourth game of its victory over Wright State on Saturday marks a tie for the third-fewest points ever allowed by UW-Green Bay in a game (1-4) during the rally scoring era.

The .474 hitting percentage posted by the Phoenix in game four against Wright State was a season high for a single game.

UW-Green Bay hits the road this weekend as it opens the second half of the Horizon League season at Youngstown State Friday and Cleveland State Saturday.

Loyola (11-11, 4-3 HL)

Loyola fell to UIC in their lone match of the week 3-0. Junior Keily Zins led the Ramblers with 11 kills and a .308 attack percentage. Senior Ann Deelo finished with a match-high 15 digs in the loss.

Loyola starts the second half of the Horizon League season next weekend at Butler on Friday before taking on Wright State Saturday.

Youngstown State (9-15, 0-7 HL)

With nine wins this season, YSU has surpassed its win total from last season. Freshman Ruth Boscaljon needs just 10 more blocks to move into the single-season top-10 chart. She currently has 107 total blocks and needs to reach 117 to move into a tie with Dina Hartman (1989). With 11 kills and 13 digs against West Virginia, sophomore Ebony Barbosa posted her 10th double-double of the season.

Wright State (10-12, 4-3 HL)

The Raiders won the first game of both matches on their Wisconsin trip this past weekend, holding a .307-.087 hitting advantage in those two first games, but found the going rough the rest of the way as UW-Milwaukee and UW-Green Bay had a 113-64 kill edge combined in the final three games and out hit Wright State .310-.103.

Senior outside hitter Jenny Schultz recorded a double-double of 14 kills and 14 digs Saturday at UW-Green Bay. She has 11 overall on the season and has posted a double-double in six of the last seven matches.

Wright State starts the second round of Horizon League play this week by hosting League-leading UIC on Friday followed by Loyola on Saturday.

Butler (6-15, 1-6 HL)

With 91 total blocks on the season, senior middle blocker Krystal Hendrix touts 418 total blocks in her career, the sixth-highest total in school history. She is also second all-time in block assists with 378.

Freshman outside hitter Porshia Allen continues to pace the Bulldogs on offense, totaling 216 kills for 3.04 per game in just her first season with the team.  She has also tallied six double-doubles (kills and digs) to lead the team.

Sophomore Nina Inic has been nearly untouchable on defense in Horizon League play, notching 131 digs and only 17 errors for a .911 reception percentage.  She has notched double-figure digs in 10 of her last 11 matches.
