Wright State and Valparaiso garner Horizon League Softball Players of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS - Wright State outfielder Jamie Perkins has been named the Horizon League Softball Batter of the Week, while Valparaiso hurler Alex Lagesse has earned Pitcher of the Week honors for the week ending March 28.

Perkins knocked a two-run double on a full count with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to give WSU a 6-5 come-from-behind victory in the first game of a double header against Ohio.  For the week, the senior hit 8-of-12 (.667) and slugged 1.167, including three doubles and a homer.  The Convoy, Ohio, native, also recorded six stolen bases on six attempts.  She led her Raider squad to a five-game sweep last week against Ohio and League-foe Detroit.

Lagesse threw six innings of scoreless, four-hit ball in a 1-0 triumph over IPFW on Wednesday night, allowing just one runner in scoring position.  She followed that up with a five-inning complete game shutout in the league opener versus Green Bay, yielding just three hits.  For the week, the sophomore earned two wins and seven strikeouts in 11 total innings.  The Beecher, Ill., native, currently owns a 1.60 ERA and a 7-3 season record.
