INDIANAPOLIS -- Wright State senior Jamison Clark (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) has been named the Horizon League Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week, while Cleveland State senior Catrine Bjerrehus (Aarhus, Denmark/ Marselisborg Gymnasium) has earned Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week honors, for the week of April 16-22. The accolade is the first of the year for both players.

Clark helped Wright State (18-4, 7-0 Horizon) capture its first Horizon League regular season title after the Raiders knocked off Youngstown State, 6-1, and Cleveland State, 4-3. Bjerrehus led Cleveland State (15-8, 7-1 Horizon) to a 2-0 week, enabling the Vikings to clinch the No. 2 seed in the Horizon League Tournament with 7-0 and 6-1 victories over Butler and Wright State, respectively.

Teaming with Hayden Joblin at No. 1 doubles, Clark led Wright State to the doubles point in both matches, as the tandem collected an 8-1 on Saturday before a key 8-3 victory on Sunday. At No. 5 singles, Clark breezed to a 6-4, 6-4 win against YSU. In Sunday’s victory, Clark dropped the first set, 2-6, before rallying for a 6-2, 6-4 triumph that helped clinch the match for the Raiders and give them the outright League title.

Competing at No. 1 doubles and singles, Bjerrehus was unbeaten, partnering with Maria Lazerus to post a 9-8 victory versus Butler before coasting to an 8-0 win at love against Wright State. At No. 1 singles, Bjerrehus lost her first set of the weekend, 3-6, before coming back to win the second, 6-0, and take the super tie-break, 10-5. In her final match in Cleveland, the senior won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2. The win was the 60th of her career, making her just one of four Vikings all time to reach the 60-win plateau.

The No. 1 seed in the Horizon League Men’s Tennis Tournament, Wright State earned a bye into the semifinals, where the Raiders will face the winner of the No. 4 Cleveland State-No. 5 Detroit match. The semifinal match will be played at 10:30 a.m. ET, weather permitting, on Saturday, April 28, at the Barbara Wynne Tennis Center on the campus of North Central High School in Indianapolis.
