INDIANAPOLIS –Wright State junior Jess Gorman (Hartville, Ohio) is the Horizon League softball Player of the Week, while teammate sophomore Montana Wear (Felicity, Ohio) is the Horizon League softball Pitcher of the Week for the week of March 17-23. This is the first League honor for both players on the year.

Wright State played in two double-headers this past week at Miami (OH) and hosted conference-foe Oakland. In the mid-week games against Miami, the Raiders split with the RedHawks winning the first 5-4 before falling in the second 6-1. Two days later, Wright State opened Horizon League competition against newcomer Oakland and swept the series. The Raiders won the first game 7-1 followed by a 3-0 shutout. Due to weather, the third game of the series was cancelled.

Gorman had an outstanding week at the plate going 7-for-10 posting a batting average of .700. In the double-header versus Miami, the junior went 2-for-2 with two doubles with one RBI in the first matchup and 1-for-2 with a solo homerun in the second. Taking on Oakland, Gorman continued her hot hitting streak in a 2-for-3 performance with a double, stolen base and run scored to kick-off conference play. In game two on Saturday, she went 2-for-3 with a double, triple, run scored and one RBI. Over the four games, she had a 1.600 slugging percentage and a .750 on-base percentage.

Wear led the Raiders on the mound starting one game and making appearances in three. She recorded a 2-0 record in 13.0 innings pitched in the circle. The sophomore tabbed a .54 earned run average and held opponents to a .149 batting against average. After two trips to the mound in relief against Miami, she threw a complete-game shutout in the second games versus Oakland. Overall, she fanned ten batters this past week in her innings pitched, seven of which in her performance over the Grizzlies.

Wright State hosts Dayton in a mid-week double-header on Thursday, March 27 with the first game starting at 5:00 p.m. EST. The Raiders then continue conference play as they host Green Bay for a double-header Saturday, March 29 and a single game on Sunday, March 30.
