INDIANAPOLIS -- Wright State junior Garrett Gray and Valparaiso junior Kyle Wormington have been named Horizon League Baseball Players of the Week for the period of April 30-May 6.

Gray picked up Batter of the Week accolades after batting .667 in Wright State’s four games last week. He started the week with a 1-for-4 performance, scoring two runs in WSU’s 10-1 win over Cincinnati. In the series opener against Valparaiso, Gray went 5-for-5, including a two-run home run, as he finished the night with two runs scored and three RBIs. On Saturday, he was 1-for-2 with a double and had the game-winning RBI. In the series finale, Gray was 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored.

Gray finished the week with a slugging percentage of 1.000 and an on-base percentage of .706. He scored five runs and drove in four more.

Wormington picked up Pitcher of the Week honors after recording the win in Valparaiso’s 4-3 win over Wright State on Sunday to move the Crusaders into a tie with the Raiders on top of the Horizon League baseball standings. Wormington cruised through the first seven innings, allowing only six hits while giving up one unearned run, and striking out four against the top hitting lineup in the league. The Raiders finally were able to chase Wormington in the eighth inning as they scored two runs on three hits, but it was too late for WSU as the Crusaders relievers came in and shut down the Raiders the rest of the way to get the win.
