INDIANAPOLIS -- Wright State senior guard Ivory James (Camden N.J.) has been named the Horizon League Women’s Basketball Player of the Week after leading the Raiders to a pair of victories while Green Bay forward Tesha Buck (Red Wing, Minn.) has been named Freshman of the Week after averaging 11.0 points and 5.0 assists for the week of Nov. 11-17.
James set a career-high in points in back-to-back games this week, starting with a 23 point effort against Miami (Ohio). She also added seven rebounds and six steals in the contest. The senior then posted 25 points, eight rebounds against Memphis before capping of the week with an 18 point effort against Akron.
Wright State scored 10 points in the final three minutes of the first half against Miami (Ohio), then exploded for 52 more in the second half in rolling to a 90-63 win over the RedHawks. It was just the fifth win all-time for the Raiders in 27 meetings.
Against Memphis, James again set a new career-high in points (25) and nearly led the Raiders to a second-half comeback. However, the Tigers proved to be too much, shooting 46 percent for the game compared to the Raiders’ 30 percent. Memphis went on to win 83-75.
In the final matchup of the week, Wright State pulled away from Akron 90-80. With 2:22 left, Wright State was clinging to a 78-73 lead. The Raiders went on to make nine of ten free throws in the closing 1:15 to put the game on ice. James was one of four Raider players in double figures.
Wright State plays two games this week, starting with a road date at Murray State on Thursday.
Green Bay started its East Coast swing with a loss at St. Bonaventure but bounced back with a win at Duquesne. Trailing by nine points with less than eight minutes remaining, the Phoenix outscored the Dukes 23-6 to post a 68-60 win. Buck matched a career-high 11 points, and set a career-high in assists with seven. In Green Bay’s 68-62 loss, Buck set a career-high in points (11) while shooting 3-7 from the field. For the week, the freshman led the team in shooting percentage from three-point land (5-14, .357) while also dishing out 10 assists.
Green Bay continues its six-game road swing on Friday, traveling to the University of Vermont to square off against Siena in the TD Bank Classic.
Top Performers for the Week:
Cori Coleman, Cleveland State (Jr., G) - Coleman notched 14 points, seven rebounds and a career-high seven steals in the Vikings’ 76-48 win over Lake Erie. In the team’s 84-70 loss against Eastern Michigan, the junior scored a team-high 15 points.
Katie Hannemann, UIC (Sr., C) - Posted 12 points, 15 rebounds in the Flames 70-62 win over Idaho State. Marked the sixth double-double of the senior’s career.
Liz Horton, Valparaiso (Sr., F) - Scored 22 points in total for the Crusaders in its pair of games against Illinois and No. 6 Notre Dame.
Kali Lukan, Green Bay (So., F) - Led the Phoenix in scoring at St. Bonaventure and Duquesne with
13 points. At Duquesne, went 6-for-8 from the line and came up with a key steal in the final minute to seal the win.
Olivia Nash, Oakland (So., F) - Nash posted her second double-double of the season, 13 points and 12 boards, in a 57-54 loss to UCF. Scored nine points and posted nine rebounds in the Golden Grizzlies 62-57 loss to Canisius.
Angela Rodriguez, Milwaukee (Sr., G) - In the Panther’s season-opening loss against Wisconsin, Rodriguez put up 18 points in 36 minutes of work. The guard followed that up with 18 points, 10 assists in the Panthers 99-86 loss to Western Illinois.
Senee Shearer, Detroit (Sr., G) - Scored 20.3 points per game during the Titans stretch of games, including a career-high 29 points in a loss at Western Michigan. Had nine three-pointers over the three games.
Heidi Schlegel, Youngstown State (Jr., F) - After scoring a career-high 27 points against VCU last week, Schlegel scored 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the Penguins 72-65 loss to Buffalo.
Top Freshman for the Week:
Melita Emanuel-Carr, UIC (Fr., G) - Helped UIC overcome a four-point halftime deficit to post the team’s first win of the season. In 11 minutes of action, went 4-6 from the charity stripe to finish with four points, two rebounds.
Jenna Hirsch, Youngstown State (Fr., G) - Hirsch had five points, five rebounds against Buffalo.
Haleigh Ristovski, Detroit (Fr., G/F) - Snagged 4.0 rebounds per game over the Titans stretch of three games, which included a win against Lawrence Tech and losses to Western Michigan and Michigan.
Olivia Voskuhl, Cleveland State (Fr., F) - One of five Vikings with a double-digit scoring output (12) against Lake Erie. Went on to tally five points, two rebounds against Eastern Michigan.
Bre’Zall Warren, Milwaukee (Fr., G) - Scored 11 points against Wisconsin. Became the first Panther freshman to score in double figures in a career-debut since the 2010-11 season. Followed that up with a 13 point, five rebound performance against Western Illinois.
