INDIANAPOLIS -- Wright State sophomore Hayden Joblin (Brooklyn, New Zealand) has been named Horizon League Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week, while Wright State freshman Alex Bastock (Hudson, Ohio) has earned Horizon League Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week honors, for the week of Jan. 16-22.

Joblin helped Wright State (3-2) go 2-0 on the week, collecting a 6-1 victory over Saint Louis before wrapping up the road trip with a 5-2 win against SIU-Edwardsville. Joblin anchored the Raiders at No. 2 singles, failing to drop a set. Against SLU, Joblin won 7-6, 6-4, before notching a 6-2, 6-4 triumph on Saturday.

Playing at No. 1 doubles, Joblin and partner Jamison Clark went 1-1, dropping a 9-7 decision against the Billikens before bouncing back with an 8-6 win against SIUE. On the year, Joblin is off to a 4-0 start at No. 2 singles, presently leading all Horizon League men’s tennis players in wins.

Wright State (0-2) dropped its first women’s tennis matches of the season, but Bastock netted points in 5-2 losses to both Saint Louis and SIU-Edwardsville.

In her first collegiate matches, Bastock went 2-0 at No. 2 singles while splitting results at No. 2 doubles. On Friday, Bastock took her first set, 6-4, before rallying for a 14-12 super tie-break victory after dropping the second set, 5-7. The freshman would win in straight sets on Saturday, routing her opponent 6-2, 6-2. In doubles, Bastock and Amy Nini partnered on an 8-4 victory at No. 2 versus SIUE.

While the Wright State men will enjoy a week off after playing five matches in the first two weeks of the year, the Raider women will meet Ball State on Friday, Jan. 27. The matches will begin at 1 p.m. ET.
