INDIANAPOLIS -- Wright State freshman Kim Demmings is the Horizon League’s women’s basketball player of the week after scoring 25 points in her collegiate debut on Sunday.

Demmings had a game-high 25 points, while also grabbing four rebounds, passing out two assists and recording two blocked shots in Wright State’s 74-55 season-opening win over Ball State.

The Richmond, Ind., native helped the Raiders take control of the game midway through the first half. The Cardinals were leading 13-10 at the 13:14 mark of the first half when Demmings contributed 10 points in a 23-4 Wright State run that put the Raiders on top for good.

She finished the game 9-for-13 from the field and a perfect 6-for-6 at the free throw line.

Other Top Performers for the Week:

Troy Hambric, Loyola (So., F) - Hambric averaged 15.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game as Loyola started 2-0 for the first time since the 2001-02 season. Hambric, in her first collegiate start, had a career-high 23 points.

Julie Wojta, Green Bay (Sr., F) - Wojta had 21 points and 11 rebounds as the 24th-ranked Phoenix opened the season with a 82-59 victory at North Dakota State. Wojta became the 29th member of Green Bay’s 1,000 point club during the game.

Jasmine Bailey, UIC (Sr., G/F) - Bailey had 18 points, nine rebounds, six assists and three steals as the Flames opened the Regina Miller era with a 61-48 win over Drake. Bailey became the 16th player in UIC history to score 1,000 points during the game.

Destinee Blue, Cleveland State (Sr., C) -Blue averaged 14.5 points last week as the Vikings split their first two games of the season. She had a team-high 18 points in CSU’s season-opening win over Tennessee State.

Shareta Brown, Detroit (Fr., F) - Brown had 25 points and 13 rebounds in her collegiate debut as Detroit fell to Indiana State, 64-62 in the first round of the Preseason WNIT.

Terra Burns, Butler (Sr., G) - Burns averaged 12.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game in Butler’s first two games of the season and was named to the Hawkeye Challenge All-Tournament Team.

Shaquira Scott, Valparaiso (Fr., G) - Scott came-off-the-bench to lead all scorers with 18 points in Valparaiso’s 65-62 overtime loss at SIU Edwardsville.

Brandi Brown, Youngstown State (Jr., F) - The 2011-12 League Preseason Player-of-the-Year had 18 of her game-high 22 points in the second half as YSU defeated IPFW, 91-81.
