Wright State's Lewis named to the women's basketball Academic All-America Third Team by CoSIDA

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Wright State University senior forward Whitney Lewis was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Women's Basketball Third Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Tuesday.

Lewis holds a 3.97 grade point average in Human Factors Psychology.

Away from the classroom, Lewis leads the country in three-point field goal percentage (49.5) and is WSU's leading rebounder (5.5 rpg). In addition, the Ohio native is second on the squad in scoring, averaging 12.5 points per game.

This season, Lewis has helped the Raiders to a 9-5 League mark and 12-13 overall record.

The Academic All-America program honors male and female student-athletes annually who have succeeded at the highest level on the playing field and in the classroom.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports.

Individuals are selected through voting by CoSIDA, a 2,000 member organization consisting of sports public relations professionals for colleges and universities in the United States and Canada.
