Michael Schum, a junior pitcher on the Wright State baseball team, has been named a Second Team All-American by CollegeBaseballInsider.com, it was announced Thursday afternoon.

Schum (Bright, IN/East Central) went 9-2 in 2011 with nine saves, a 1.37 earned run average and 41 strikeouts. He finished the season ranked 13th in Division I in walks allowed per nine innings at 1.02 (six in 52.2 innings), 47th in victories and 58th in saves.

The Horizon League Relief Pitcher of the Year, Schum was also a First Team All-League selection and part of the league's All-Tournament Team as he did not allow a run in two appearances. In the winner's bracket final against Valparaiso, Schum earned the save by pitching a scoreless ninth, striking out two, while in the championship game versus the Crusaders, he picked up the win with three scoreless innings, giving up no hits and fanning one.

Along with his Horizon League honors, Schum earlier was named a Louisville Slugger/Collegiate Baseball Second Team All-American and Second Team All-Mideast Region by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and Rawlings

Wright State, which closed the season at 36-19, posted its most wins in a year since going 36-22 in 2007. Prior to that, the Raiders had not won more than 36 since recording 39 wins in 1994. WSU won the Horizon League regular-season crown for the second straight year and in claiming the league's tournament title for the third time in the last six seasons, advanced to the NCAA Regionals in College Station, Texas.
