INDIANAPOLIS – Wright State senior Dan Shafer and Green Bay senior Monica Anderson have been named the Horizon League’s Scholar-Athletes of the Month for August and September 2013.

An accountancy major, Shafer carries a 3.96 GPA and was an Academic All-League selection in 2011-12 and 2012-13. In 2012-13, Shafer was the recipient of Wright State’s Dr. Carl Benner Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award. He is also on the Horizon League and Wright State Honor Roll.

Shafer led the Raiders in the fi rst two months of competition, setting a school record in the 5K as he fi nished 9th at the Queen City Invitational with another top-ten fi nish at the Friendship Invitational. He also placed 20th at the Flyer 5K Challenge.

A democracy and justice studies major, Anderson carries a 3.905 GPA, leading the Phoenix volleyball team and helping the team post a 3.54 GPA in the spring. She was also named to the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll in the fall and spring of 2012-13.

Anderson serves as a vital member to the Phoenix volleyball team, posting 101 kills in the month of September with double-digit kill totals in six of the team’s 10 matches. She was named to the Butler Classic All-Tournament Team after registering 34 kills and hitting .405 in three matches. Green Bay’s 3-1 start in Horizon League play equals the best four-match conference start in school history.
