INDIANAPOLIS -- Wright State freshman first baseman Gabe Snyder (Millersburg, Ohio/West Holmes) has been named the Horizon League Batter of the Week, while Raiders right-hander Jesse Scholtens [Fairfield, Calif./Rodriguez (Diablo Valle JC)] is the League’s Pitcher of the Week, for the week of Feb. 16-22. The accolades are the first of both players’ careers.

One of just two Horizon League teams to see the field this weekend, Wright State (4-2) narrowly dropped its series at No. 18 Ole Miss, taking the second game of the three-game set.

Starting all three games, Snyder was 3-for-9 in the series, with all three hits going for extra bases. In the Raiders’ 10-3 series-opening defeat, Snyder was 1-for-3 with a double and run scored.

The freshman lifted Wright State to a 3-1 win in the series’ second game, launching a game-winning, three-run homer in the seventh inning. In the finale, Synder was 1-for-3 with a RBI double in a narrow 3-2 loss.

Adding two walks, Snyder posted a 1.344 OPS, finishing the series with two runs scored and four RBIs. On the young season, Snyder is hitting .375 with two homers and eight RBIs.

Scholtens got the start in the first game of Sunday’s twinbill and tossed six innings without allowing an earned run. The right-hander struck out four while working around four Ole Miss hits.

In the first two weeks of the season, Scholtens has tossed 13.0 innings, posting a 2-0 record and 13 strikeouts.

The Raiders will continue their road swing to open the season by venturing to Miami (FL) for a three-game set beginning on Friday, Feb. 27.
