WSU's Scholtens Throws Perfect Game

Jesse Scholtens pitched the first perfect game in Wright State baseball history and the offense pushed across a run in the sixth as the Raiders defeated Dayton 1-0 Friday afternoon at Time Warner Cable Stadium.

It was quite a pitcher's duel between Scholtens and Flyer starter Mason Kutruff for the first five innings as Scholten retired all 15 batters he faced, striking out nine, while Kutruff shutout the Raiders on two hits.

WSU, though, broke through with the only run of the game in the sixth.  JD Orr led off with a walk and went to second on a bunt by Jason DeFevers.  Mitch Roman walked and after both runners advanced into scoring position on a wild pitch, Ryan Fucci plated Orr with a grounder to short.

Scholtens (2-0) struck out a batter in each of the final three innings to finish with 12 for the game, including Pat Meehan looking for the final out to complete the perfect game.  It is the first perfect game in Wright State history and the first no-hitter for the program since Darrell Back accomplished the feat at Valparaiso on May 16, 1993.
