Youngstown State 69, Fredonia State 35
Youngstown State rebounded from a narrow loss on Saturday to roll past visiting Fredonia State, 69-35, at the Beeghly Center on Turesday night.

Shooting 50.9 percent on the night, Youngstown State (6-2) raced out to a 13-2 lead in the game's first five minutes and was never seriously challenged by Division III's Fredonia State. Damian Eargle had six of his eight points in the opening stretch, while DuShawn Brooks collected 11 of his 13 points in the first half, in which the Penguins took a 31-12 lead into the locker room.

Head Coach Jerry Slocum was able to use his bench liberally, as 11 Penguins scored and 14 appeared in the game. Blake Allen led the way with 14 points, knocking down 4-of-6 three-pointers. Allen and Brooks combined to go 7-for-12 from long distance; over his last three games, Brooks is shooting 12-for-20 from three-point range.

At 6-2, Youngstown State is off to the program's best start since the 1997-98 season; the Penguins finished that year 20-9.

The Penguins held Fredonia State to just 31 percent shooting, with Eargle turning in four of the team's eight blocks. YSU's defense forced 19 turnovers. The 35 points allowed by the Penguins were the fewest in a contest since Hiram had just 35 on Dec. 22, 1970.
