INDIANAPOLIS – Youngstown State senior Jeremy Banks and Valparaiso senior Tyler Deetjen have been named Horizon League Baseball Players of the Week for the period of Feb. 27-March 4.

Banks picked up Batter of the Week accolades after batting .462 at the plate and being named to All-Tournament team at Austin Peay last weekend. Banks reached base seven times in YSU’s 16-15, 10 inning loss on Sunday, he homered, drove in six runs and scored three himself in the game. He also went 2-for-5, scoring a run and driving in another in the Penguins game against Austin Peay.

Through the first three weeks of the season, Banks is the top-hitter in the league, leading the conference in batting average (.463), RBIs (15) and tied for the most home runs (2).

Deetjen notched his second Pitcher of the Week honor this season after going the distance in Valparaiso’s 2-1 loss to Gardner-Webb. Deetjen threw just 71 pitches in the game, holding GW to 7 hits and allowing their only runs in the fourth-inning on a two-out double. He struck out two and walked none in the contest.

Deetjen has pitched 20.2 innings in three starts this season, tying for the most innings pitched in the conference this season.

Zach Tanner, Wright State, Sr., INF –
Tanner batted .364 last weekend, scoring twice and driving in three runs as the Raiders scored victories over Seton Hall and 14th-ranked Virginia.

Mike Hoscheit, Butler, Sr., OF – Hoscheit batted .344 last weekend in Butler’s three-game series at Belmont. His home run on Saturday was the game-winner in Butler’s lone win in the series.

Chris Manning, Valparaiso, So., OF – Manning hit .556 in Valparaiso’s two games last weekend, going 4-for-5 with two RBIs in Valparaiso’s win over Wofford.

Luke Meeteer, Milwaukee, Fr., OF - Meeteer was named to the Aztec Invitational All-Tournament team after batting a team-best .333 in UWM's four games last weekend. He scored twice and drove in two more runs on the weekend and was flawless on defense, recording a handful of impressive catches.

Brad Schnitzer, Butler, Sr., LHP – Schnitzer was the winning pitcher for Butler on Saturday, striking out two batters in two scoreless innings, to finish the Bulldogs win.
