INDIANAPOLIS – Youngstown State sophomore forward Brandi Brown has been named Horizon League Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 22.
Brown received the honor after averaging 20 points and 8.5 rebounds per game through two contests, helping the Penguins snap a 34-game losing streak and win two straight for the first time since 2007-08.
The Pamona, Calif., native recorded her first double-double of the year with 23 points and 11 rebounds in a 71-57 win over Bucknell on Wednesday, before adding 17 points, 6 rebounds, two assists, two blocks and a steal in a 60-52 come-from-behind victory over Ohio on Saturday.Brown becomes the first YSU women’s basketball player to receive the award since Jen Perugini on Feb. 28, 2005.
Youngstown State plays the next two contests on the road. It travels to Kent State on Wednesday for a 7pm ET contest. The Penguins will then head to Washington, D.C. to play American on Saturday in a 2pm ET tip.
