INDIANAPOLIS -- Youngstown State freshman Remi Chancerel (Dax, France) is the Men’s Tennis Player of the Week while Milwaukee senior Chelsea Bailey (Mercer Island, Wash.) is the Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 8-15.

Youngstown State took the road to the River Forest Invitational hosted by UIC at both the River Forest Tennis Club and the Oak Park Tennis Center. The Penguins competed against opponents from Michigan State, Xavier, Western Michigan, Northern Illinois, Butler, Belmont and UIC.

In the Flight A Singles, Chancerel dropped his opening match in three-sets against Michigan State’s Ritchie Kruuenberg but bounced back to win his next three matches. The freshman tallied his first career victory as a Penguin in his second match against Xavier’s Jeremy Schneider 6-2, 6-1 and defeated Butler’s Tommy Marx 6-4, 6-2 in his third match. To round out his singles action at the Invitational, Chancerel picked up a win over NIU’s Frederic Cadieux 6-3, 6-1.

At No. 2 Doubles with teammate Silviu Mistreanu, the duo fell to Matt Bishop and Michael Moe from Xavier 8-6 but notched a pair of victories over teams from NIU and Western Michigan.

Milwaukee traveled to the Drake Invite where the team competed against squads from Creighton, Drake, Nebraska-Omaha, North Dakota, Northern Colorado, Northern Iowa, South Dakota and Upper Iowa.

Bailey competed in the Flight B Singles bracket were she went 2-2 for the Panthers and competed in the consolation finals. The senior fell in her first match to Northern Iowa’s Elvira Lopez 6-4, 6-3 but won her next two matches over Upper Iowa’s Saki Kawabata (6-4, 6-0) and Creighton’s Sam Anderson (6-4, 7-5). In the consolation finals, Bailey lost to Northern Colorado’s Lea Krajcovicova 6-4, 6-3.

With teammate Christina Colarossi, the pair competed in the Flight B Doubles bracket and beat duos from Upper Iowa (8-4), Nebraska-Omaha (8-4) and Northern Colorado (8-4). In the championship match, the two defeated North Dakota’s Lacey Sprinkel and Mimi Yunker 8-5 to capture the title.

The Youngstown State men’s tennis team hits the road this weekend to compete at the IU Hoosier Classic in Bloomington, Ind. beginning Friday with competition going through Sunday. The Milwaukee women’s team travels to Minneapolis, Minn. to take part in the Gopher Invite also beginning Friday and running through Sunday.

Top Men’s Tennis Players of the Week:
Maurisio Feoli, UIC (Sr.): Competed in the Flight B singles at the River Forest Collegiate Invite. Went 2-1 in competition defeating players from Michigan State and Butler.

Top Women’s Tennis Players of the Week:
Nino Sujashvili, Detroit (Jr.): Went 2-1 in singles and in doubles at the Spartan Invitational. She defeated opponents in straight-sets from Michigan State and IPFW in singles as well as in doubles with teammate Sofia Sorokina.

Sept. 8: Chelsea Bailey, Milwaukee
