INDIANAPOLIS – Youngstown State sophomore Michael Davis (Vienna, Ohio) has been named the Horizon League Men’s Track and Field Runner of the Week, while Valparaiso senior Jarrett Mickens (Aurora, Ill.) has been selected the League’s Field Athlete of the Week, for the week beginning Feb. 7.

Competing at the Akron Invitational, Youngstown State’s penultimate meet until the Horizon League Championships, Davis set the League standard in the 60 meters, crossing the line in 6.88 seconds.  Placing fourth overall in the event, Davis posted the fifth-best time in Penguins history.

The sophomore holds the third-best 200 meters mark in the League this season, running a 22.18 at Akron, which would rank sixth if not for his 21.98 run on Jan. 28.

Mickens collected his third Field Athlete of the Week honor after winning the triple jump for the third time in five meets in the indoor season.  At the Grand Valley State University Big Meet, Mickens took first with a leap of 14.45 meters (47’5”), just shy of his League-best 14.68 meters posted on Jan. 13.

In the long jump, Mickens was measured at 7.02 meters (23’ 1/2”), taking second of 42 competitors.  His leap was .22 meters shy of his season-best, which ranks second in the Horizon League indoor season.

Youngstown State will prep for the Horizon League Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Kent State Tune Up on Feb. 18-19.  Valparaiso will head down I-65 to the Boilermaker Invitational on Feb. 19 in its last meet before the League championships.
