INDIANAPOLIS – Youngstown State senior Phil Lipari and Green Bay sophomore Marissa Michalkiewicz have been named the Horizon League’s Scholar-Athletes of the Month for March.

Lipari holds a 3.82 grade point average while majoring in Finance at Youngstown State. He is a two-time Academic All-Horizon League selection and an Academic All-District nominee for the sport of baseball.

Lipari led the Penguins the month of March in batting average, runs scored, extra-base hits and slugging percentage. He batted .349 throughout the month’s 13 games while hitting four doubles, a triple and a home run. The senior posted four multi-hit contests and tallied multiple RBI’s in two of those games.

As a sophomore, Michalkiewicz holds a 3.94 grade point average while majoring in Environmental Science and Environmental Policy and Planning. In the fall of 2013, she was named to the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll.

While starting all 16 games in the month of March, Michalkiewicz led the Phoenix at the plate with a batting average of .396. She tallied 21 hits, including three doubles, two triples and three home runs. The sophomore also drove in 16 runs and crossed the plate 10 times. Michalkiewicz was named the Horizon League Player of the Week on March 3 after leading Green Bay to a 3-1 finish at the Western Kentucky Hilltopper Classic.

The Youngstown State baseball team takes the road to face Kent State Wednesday, April 30 for a non-conference matchup and continues Horizon League play over the weekend at Wright State. The Green Bay softball team concludes conference play on Saturday and Sunday as the Phoenix host Valparaiso for a three-game series. The Phoenix currently lead the League standings and are in contention for a regular season title and No. 1 seed at the Horizon League Championship beginning March 7.
