INDIANAPOLIS –Youngstown State junior Silviu Mistreanu (Iasi, Romania) is the Horizon League men’s tennis Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 21-27.

The Youngstown State men’s tennis team competed at the Youngstown State Fall Invitational at the Boardman Tennis Center Friday through Sunday. The team overall concluded the Invitational winning two flight singles titles and the doubles title.

Mistreanu won the flight A singles with a 4-0 record and did not drop a set over the three days of competition. Mistreanu began Friday with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Bruno Russo of Robert Morris. He continued solid play Saturday beating Wright State’s Lauri Makikalli 6-2, 6-5 (4) in the quarterfinals and followed-up with another victory in the semifinals over Alex Aleman of Duquesne 6-3, 6-1.

In the flight A championship match against ASA’s Tim Srkala, Mistreanu had another great match winning 6-3, 6-5. Srkala had not lost a set going into the championship and was the No. 1 seed of the Invitational.

The YSU Fall Invitational was the last event of the fall for the Penguins.

Top Men’s Tennis Players of the Week:
Matt Kuelker, Cleveland State (Sr.)—First Viking to pick up a win at the main singles draw since 2009 at the ITA Midwest Regional. Went 1-1 in the main doubles draw with teammate Manuel Bellutti.
