INDIANAPOLIS -- Youngstown State senior outfielder Haley Thomas (Simi Valley, Calif.) has been named Horizon League Softball Player of the Week, while Penguins sophomore Casey Crozier (Valparaiso, Ind.) has earned Horizon League Softball Pitcher of the Week honors, for the week of March 12-18.
Thomas and Crozier led Youngstown State (11-5) to a 6-3 mark at the Rebel Games, as Thomas hit .481 while compiling a 1.297 OPS. Crozier went 3-1 in seven appearances, tallying a save along with a 1.19 ERA.
Going 13-for-27 on the week, Thomas collected at least one hit in seven of nine games and notched three three-hit efforts. Against Northern Colorado, the senior went 3-for-4 with two doubles, adding two RBIs in a 3-for-4 performance against Army. In the Rebel Games finale, Thomas went 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs as the Penguins cruised past Bucknell, 9-0.
Crozier had a hand in four of YSU’s six wins last week, starting with a six-strikeout effort in a 9-1 victory over St. Peter’s. The next day, the sophomore entered into a bases loaded, no-out jam and escaped without giving up a hit or run to tally the save in a 3-2 win over Northern Colorado.
The right-hander struck out eight in four innings against Lafayette and capped her week with a complete game, three-hit shutout over Bucknell.
