INDIANAPOLIS -- Youngstown State junior Casey Crozier (Valparaiso, Ind.) and Cleveland State sophomore Erica McNew (Canton, Ohio) have been named the Horizon League softball Players of the Week.
It is the first honor of the season for either player.
Crozier earned Pitcher of the Week honors after a 3-1 week in the circle that included the first no-hitter of her career. The junior hurler no-hit Detroit in an 8-0 win, striking out seven Titans. She also blanked the Titans the next day, allowing just three hits while racking up four strikeouts.
In four starts, Crozier posted a 1.08 ERA in 26.0 innings pitched, posting a .149 batting average against. She recorded 22 strikeouts while allowing just five walks.
The Penguins are scheduled to face Eastern Michigan on Tuesday and then will return to Horizon League action against Loyola (Thursday-Friday) and Green Bay (Saturday-Sunday).
McNew slugged her way to Hitter of the Week honors, smacking four home runs and a double while batting .478 (11-for-23) in seven games, collecting 26 total bases. She drove in eight runs and scored seven, drawing two walks without striking out during the week.
Led by McNew's power surge, the Vikings took two out of three games from Youngstown State over the weekend. This week, Cleveland State faces Detroit (Wednesday-Thursday) and Detroit (Saturday-Sunday).
