INDIANAPOLIS -- Youngstown State University junior cross country runner Justin Dickman and University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee junior volleyball player Lauren Felsing have been named U.S. Army Horizon League Scholar-Athletes of the Month for August/September, League commissioner Jonathan B. LeCrone announced Thursday (Oct. 9).

Dickman (Van Wert, Ohio/Van Wert) was Youngstown State's highest finisher in both of the Penguins' September meets, including a sixth-place finish at the Tommy Evans Invitational Sept. 6 with a four-mile time of 21:11. He also placed 28th wtih a 5.2-mile time of 27:40 at the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational Sept. 13. Dickman is the first YSU student-athlete to be named the League's Student-Athlete of the Month since the award's inception a year ago.

As a political science major, Dickman carries a 3.95 grade-point average at Youngstown State.

Felsing (Hartland, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) led Milwaukee to a 10-4 record in August and September, including a 3-0 mark against League foes. She recorded more than 20 digs seven times through the end of September and ranked among the top 25 in the nation in digs per set. Felsing was honored as the League's Defensive Player of the Week as well as its Scholar-Athlete of the Week for Sept. 1.

In the classroom, Felsing maintains a 3.982 grade-point average as a marketing major at Milwaukee. She has been named to the League's Academic Honor Roll and its Volleyball All-Academic Team and also has earned UWM's Athletic Director's Award for having the highest departmental grade-point average.

The Horizon League instituted the U.S. Army Scholar-Athlete of the Week awards as a way to recognize outstanding academic and athletic achievement by its student-athletes. To be eligible for the honor, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or better (on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution, passed 24 semester or 36 quarter hours and perform well during the week's competition. Winners are selected by a group of League faculty athletic representatives, from nominations provided by sports information directors.
