INDIANAPOLIS -- Youngstown State junior center Bobby Hain (Jupiter, Fla./Jupiter) has been named the Horizon League Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Oakland freshman guard Nick Daniels (Westland, Mich./John Glenn) has been named the Freshman of the Week, for the week of Dec. 1-7.

Hain had two double-doubles last week as the Penguins won three games. He started the week with a career-high 24 points and a Horizon League-high 14 rebounds in YSU’s 89-81 win at Robert Morris. The junior was 10-of-13 from the field in the contest, while also connecting on all four of his free throw attempts as Youngstown State won at Robert Morris for the first time since 2001. On Friday night, Hain scored 16 points and tied for game-high honors with 12 rebounds as the Penguins won at South Dakota, 87-79. He closed the week with 15 points and five rebounds in YSU’s 70-45 win over Thiel.

For the week, Hain averaged 18.3 points per game, and 10.3 rebounds per game, while also accumulating five assists, two steals and three blocks in 88 minutes of action. He has four double-doubles on the year to tie for the top total in the conference and ranks second in the conference with an average of 7.7 rpg.

Youngstown State (7-4) has won six of its last seven contests and returns to action on Saturday when it plays at Texas A&M at 5 p.m.

Daniels earned Freshman of the Week honors for the first time this season. The redshirt guard had appeared in just two games and made just one field goal prior to this week before scoring 27 points in 48 minutes of action for the Golden Grizzlies. He made his first career start on Tuesday versus Rochester College and scored a season-best 17 points. He was 5-of-6 from the field versus Rochester, including 5-of-5 from three-point range. Daniels also had four rebounds, four assists and two steals in the game. On Saturday, he scored 10 points, connecting on 4-of-8 shots from the field (2-of-4 from three-point range) as the Golden Grizzlies prevailed over Morehead State, 70-68, in overtime.

Daniels shot 64.3 percent from the field (9-of-14) last week and made 77.8 percent of his three-pointers (7-of-9).

Oakland (5-4) is on a three-game winning streak and returns to action on Sunday night at #19/18 Michigan State at 8 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPNU.

Top Performers for the Week:
Jay Harris, UIC (Sr., G)
- Harris scored a season-high 17 points on Tuesday in the Flames game versus Grand Canyon. He also recorded career-highs with seven assists and seven rebounds in the contest.
Juwan Howard Jr., Detroit (Sr., F) - Howard Jr., scored a game-high 20 points on 10-of-11 shooting in UDM’s Monday night victory over Aquinas College. He is four points shy of becoming the 39th Titan to reach 1,000 career points.
Trey Lewis, Cleveland State (Jr., F) - Lewis averaged 21.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists as CSU split two games last week. He scored 21 points in both of CSU’s games and has now scored 20+-points in four of the last five games.
Carrington Love, Green Bay (Jr., G) - Love scored a career-high 20 points in Green Bay’s 68-55 win at 15th-ranked Miami (Fla.) on Saturday. He added career-highs in rebounds (9), field goals made (6), minutes (36), steals (4) and blocks (2) in the contest.
Steve McWhorter, Milwaukee (Sr., G) - McWhorter averaged 15.0 ppg., 6.5 rpg., and 2.5 apg last week for the Panthers. He scored a career-best 19 points and a career-best three blocked shots, while adding five rebounds in UWM’s game versus IUPUI. He narrowly missed out on his second double-double of the year when he totaled 17 points and nine rebounds to go with three assists, two blocks and two steals in a victory over UMKC.
Alec Peters, Valparaiso (So., F) - Peters had 21 pts on 7-of-8 three-point shooting and seven rebounds in win at Eastern Kentucky. He is one of just two players in Valpo history with multiple games with at least seven three-pointers. He led Crusaders with nine points against New Mexico.
Corey Petros, Oakland (Sr., C) - Petros averaged 21.5 points per game on 63.3 percent shooting and 7.5 rebounds per contest in two Oakland victories last week. He moved into fourth all-time in school history with 875 rebounds and ranks third among active NCAA leaders.
Joe Thomasson, Wright State (Jr., G) - Thomasson shot 85.7 percent from the field (12-14) in two WSU games last week. He scored 20 points in each contest and added 10 rebounds and 11 assists total. He had a career-high eight assists in WSU’s win over Urbana on Sunday night.

Top Freshman for the Week:
Paris Bass, Detroit (Fr., G/F) - Bass matched his career-high with 17 points in the win over Aquinas College. He also had nine rebounds and five steals in the game. He scored 11 points in Detroit’s win over South Florida on Saturday. He combined with Howard, Jr., to score nine of UDM’s final 11 points of the game to break open a one-point game.
Grant Benzinger, Wright State (Fr., G) - Benzinger connected on five three-pointers on his way to scoring a career-high 18 points in WSU’s game at Evansville on Tuesday. He made his first college start on Sunday versus Urbana and finished with 11 points.
Justin Jordan, Milwaukee (Fr., G) - Jordan came off the bench in both Panther games last week to contribute 7.0 ppg, 2.0 rpg and 1.0 apg. He registered nine points, his most since going for a season-high 11 points at Auburn in the season opener, in Milwaukee’s victory over UMKC on December 3.
Derek Sloan, Cleveland State (Fr., F) - Sloan played seven minutes off-the-bench in the win over Western Illinois, connecting on both of his field goals to finish the game with five points.
Tevonn Walker, Valparaiso (Fr., G) - Walker had 15 points and four rebounds in Valparaiso’s win at Eastern Kentucky on Wednesday.
