Zallow, Pozolinski Earn Track and Field All-American Honors
INDIANAPOLIS – Youngstown State sophomore Chad Zallow and Milwaukee senior Nate Pozolinski both earned second team All-American honors for their performances in the men’s 110m Hurdles at the NCAA Division I Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
Chad Zallow Places Ninth at NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in 110m Hurdles
Eugene, Oregon - Youngstown State sophomore hurdler Chad Zallow finished ninth in the 110m hurdles at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field on Wednesday night. Zallow ran a time of 13.58 seconds which was one spot shy of moving on to the finals.
Zallow was third in the second heat behind Alabama's Ruebin Williams (13.43 seconds) and USC's Marquis Morris. The top two from each advanced to Friday's finals.
Zallow had the third fastest non qualifying time but the top two advanced. The other two qualifying runs were by Kentucky's Nick Anderson (13.49 seconds) and Pittsburgh's Desmond Palmer (13.50 seconds). Both came out of the first heat.
For his ninth-place finish he will earn second-team All-America honors. Zallow had an impressive year earning first-team All-America honors in indoor track and was the Great Lakes Region Indoor and Outdoor Athlete of the Year. He was also the Horizon League's Indoor and Outdoor Athlete of the Year.
Pozolinski Caps Career With Another All-American Honor
MILWAUKEE – A three-time All-American – not a bad way to your collegiate career.
That's exactly what Nate Pozolinski did, capping his remarkable career with the Milwaukee track & field team Wednesday by finishing Second Team All-American in the 110m hurdles at the NCAA Outdoor Championships hosted by the University of Oregon at historic Hayward Field.
Pozolinski, running in lane seven of heat two, finished 13th overall out of the field of 24 with a time of 13.70, with the top eight advancing to Friday's final. This year's prelims – which were considerably faster than most recent years – were won by Illinois' David Kendziera in 13.39 seconds.
"We are extremely proud of everything Nate has accomplished in his illustrious career," Milwaukee head coach Pete Corfeld said. "His consistency stood out this season and he will go down in Panther history as one of the all-time greats. We were fortunate to be associated with Nate and his family and we wish them all nothing but the best in the future."
Nate's older brother, Brett Pozolinski, graduated as a two-time All-American in high jump just last year.
With Nate's finish Wednesday, that marks the eighth All-American for the Milwaukee track & field program in the last seven years and the 14th since 1995. Not only that, four of those honors have come in the 110m hurdles, all in the last six years.
"This is a testament to not only to what hard work from our student-athletes can do, but to the work our coaching staff puts in," Corfeld said. "That starts with (assistant coach) Eric Kramer. He's worked with Nate all four years and it's quite evident how that has worked out."
Pozolinski now graduates as just one of two three-time All-Americans in Milwaukee track & field Division-I history, joining Cory Peterson (1996-98) in that historic category.
