Men's HL Championship Round 1 Scores Team Individuals
The Butler women’s golf team and the Green Bay men’s golf team are leading the 2012 Horizon League Golf Championships after one day of play on the El Campeon Golf Course at Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
The Phoenix are on-top of the men’s race by two strokes over Detroit after recording an opening day score of 301 as the top of the team leaderboard is crowded with only three strokes separating the top four teams. Green Bay was paced in the first round by Cam Fuller and Chad Ebert who both carded two-over-par 74s to end the first round in a tie for third place.
Detroit is in second behind the play of Michael Nedoszytko who shot an even-par 72 in the first round to lead the tournament. The Titans’ Lucas Kim is also in the top-five as he is in a tie for third.
Cleveland State and Valparaiso are in a tie for third with both teams one stroke behind Detroit. Cleveland State’s Jonathon Riemer led his team with a two-over-par 74, while Kyle Henning paced the Crusaders with a one-over-par 73 to stand alone in second place after one day of play.
The fifth-place through eighth-place teams are bunched up just like the top-four teams. Loyola is in fifth with a score of 314, just one stroke ahead of Butler and Youngstown State who are tied for sixth at 315. Wright State is in eighth place with a first day score of 318.
The Bulldogs have three players in the top-10, led by Clare Cornelius who is tied for first place after recording a six-over-par 79 in the first round. Isabella Lambert is in third place (80) and Michele Nash is tied for ninth (84) to help the Bulldogs record an opening day of score 331 to hold an 11-stroke lead over second-place Detroit.
The Titans are alone in second place currently, but they have just a nine-stroke lead over seventh-place Valparaiso as the middle of the pack is bunched tight after 18 holes of play. Cleveland State (344) is in third, Loyola (345) fourth, Green Bay (349) is fifth, Youngstown State (350) sixth and the Crusaders (351) are in seventh. UIC playing in its first season with a team of all freshman is in eighth with a first round score of 378.
Cornelius and Detroit’s Lindsey Lammers are tied for first at 79. Lambert is third at 80, while Loyola’s Ann Vrdolyak is fourth with an opening day score of 81.
