2011 Horizon League Men's Cross Country Championship Results | 2011 Horizon League Women's Cross Country Championship Reults
INDIANAPOLIS --- Butler swept both team titles at the 2011 Horizon League Cross Country Championships in Cleveland, Ohio. The men finished the meet with 25 points and extended their streak to 14 consecutive titles. The women finished the meet with 28 points and have now won three straight team championships.
Butler sophomore Callum Hawkins won the men’s 8K race with a time of 25:43 and Shelbi Burnett won the individual title for the women with a 5K time of 18:40. It was the first time the runners have won top honors at the Horizon League Cross Country Championships.
Matt Roe, who is in his fifth year as Butler’s head coach, won the men’s and women’s Horizon League Coach of the Year Award for the fifth and third year in row, respectively.
Adding to Butler’s list of awards were freshmen runners Tom Curr (3rd, 26:10.1) and Mara Olson (11th, 19:45.7), who were named the Horizon League Newcomers of the Year.
On the men’s side, Loyola came in second place with 62 points followed by UIC (76), Milwaukee (127) and Wright State (135) to round out the top five.
For the women, Youngstown State claimed second with 58 points, followed by Loyola (75), Cleveland State (163) and Wright State (165). The fourth place finish for Cleveland State is its highest finish ever at the Horizon League Championships.
Up next for the Horizon League schools will be the NCAA Regional meet on Nov. 12. Teams will either be traveling to Toledo, Ohio for the Great Lakes Region Meet or DeKalb, Ill. for the Midwest Region Meet.
