Cleveland State Knocks Off No. 7 Vanderbilt, Wright State Picks Up First Win on Sunday

Cleveland State scored the biggest upset of the college basketball weekend, heading to No. 7 Vanderbilt and coming away with a dominant win, while Wright State picked up its first win of the season on Sunday afternoon.

Cleveland State 71, #7/7 Vanderbilt 58
The return of D'Aundray Brown to the Cleveland State (1-0) lineup was a successful one, as the senior led the Vikings to a season-opening win at No. 7 Vanderbilt, 71-58, at Memorial Coliseum, in the first game of the Ticket City Legends Classic.

Brown missed last season due to a torn tendon in his finger, preventing him from joining Norris Cole and the 2010-11 regular season co-champion Vikings. In his first game since March of 2010, Brown made up for his absence with 18 points, eight rebounds and seven steals, helping Cleveland State force 23 Vanderbily turnovers.

Limited last year to a short rotation, Gary Waters was able to dip into his bench for 22 points; in 36 games last year, the Vikings had 22 or more bench points twice against Divison I competition.

Seniors Trevon Harmon and Jeremy Montgomery chipped in with 11 and 10 points, with Montgomery hitting a key three-pointer in the closing minutes, as Cleveland State led the entire way and never by less than six points in the closing minutes.

Wright State 80, Kenyon 56
Wright State (1-0) bounced back from a loss at No. 3 Ohio State to start the weekend by rolling past Kenyon College, 80-56, in the program's home opener.

A balanced attack carried the Raiders, as four players finished in double figures, led by Tavares Sledge's 16. John Balwigaire added 14, while Armond Battle and Kendall Griffin each had 11.

The Raiders buckled down on both ends of the court, committing just 11 turnovers, while forcing Kenyon into 22. Wright State coverted those miscues into 29 points.

Duquesne 84, Green Bay 66
An early tip time did not agree with Green Bay (1-1), who shot 24 percent in the first half en route to an 84-66 loss at Duquesne on Sunday afternoon.

Hitting just 8-of-33 attempts in the first 20 minutes, the Phoenix found themselves down 37-24 at the half. Green Bay was able to close within 10 points early  in the second, but could come no closer.

Jarvis Williams led the way with 17 points, while Alec Brown recorded his second straight double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
