INDIANAPOLIS -- Cleveland State junior guard Trey Lewis (Garfield Heights, Ohio/Garfield Heights) has been named the Horizon League Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Detroit freshman forward Paris Bass (Birmingham, Mich. / Seaholm) has been named the Freshman of the Week, for the week of Jan. 19-25.

Lewis won his second straight Player of the Week honor after scoring 30 points to lead the Vikings to a come-from-behind win over Detroit on Friday night. CSU was playing without two of its starters due to injury and illness, but still had a two-point halftime lead over the Titans after Lewis scored 16 first half points. UDM opened the second half on a 15-4 run to take a nine-point lead and still led by five with under seven minutes left in the game when Lewis scored six consecutive points to give the Vikings a lead they would never relinquish.

Lewis finished the game 9-of-19 from the field, including 5-of-11 from three-point range. He also grabbed a season-high eight rebounds while playing in all 40 minutes of the victory.

After a four game stretch at the beginning of League play saw him score just 29 points in four games, Lewis has responded with 59 points in his last two games, while shooting 48.7 percent from the field and has hit 12 three-pointers.

For the season, Lewis averages 17.1 points per game to rank fourth in the conference and leads the League with an average of 2.9 three-pointers made per game.

Cleveland State (12-9, 6-1) is in a tie for first-place in the League standings and has two crucial games on the schedule this week. They play at Oakland (8-12, 3-2) before hosting the other team in a tie for first-place Green Bay (17-4, 6-1) on Saturday afternoon. Both games can be viewed on ESPN3.

Bass won his League-best fourth Freshman of the Week award this season after leading the Titans to a 1-1 week. The lengthy freshman forced overtime in Detroit’s non-conference game at Northeastern - currently tied for first in the Colonial Athletic Association - with a dunk with :28 seconds remaining. In overtime, Bass scored nine of the first 11 points as the Titans dominated the extra five minutes to win, 81-69. Bass finished the contest with a career-high tying 19 points, while shooting 8-of-14 from the field. On Friday night, Bass again tied his career-high with 19 points, shooting 7-of-13 from the field. He also pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds for his second double-double of the season and first in Horizon League play.

Bass continues to pace all freshmen in the League in scoring (12.0), rebounding (6.0), steals (1.2) and blocked shots (19).
