Northern Kentucky and Cleveland State remained unbeaten through the first two weeks of the season with wins on Sunday, while Wright State opened its home campaign with a victory.
Wright State 2, Belmont 0: Wright State women's soccer team tallied a goal in each half in posting a 2-0 decision over Belmont in its home opener at Alumni Field. MacKenzie Hamilton opened the scoring for the Raiders at the 8:43 mark in the first half with her first goal of the season, connecting on a rebound. WSU added an insurance goal at the 58:35 mark of the second half as sophomore Madison McKinney scored off a corner kick from Sarah Colvin. Read more…(link)
Cleveland State 2, Ohio 0: Cleveland State used second half goals from Vickie Havas and Elise Sailors sent the Vikings to a 2-0 shutout at Ohio. After a scoreless first half, Havas got the Vikings on the board with her second goal in as many games. After an initial shot rattled the crossbar, McKenna Vento gathered the ball and fed it to Havas who found the back of the net with her left foot in the 60th minute. It was the 18th career goal for Havas, two shy of tying and three shy of moving past Natalie Daniels for the CSU career record. Read more…(link)
Northern Kentucky 1, Charleston Southern 0: Northern Kentucky extended its season-opening win streak to four games with a 1-0 victory over Charleston Southern on a soggy Sunday afternoon.The Norse have not allowed a goal in the last 295 minutes of play, as Brooke Schocker was credited with her first solo shutout of the season after recording four saves. The match's only goal came just 50 seconds into the start of the second half as Jessica Frey sent a header from the close left wing into the box, setting up Katelyn Newton for her first goal of the season. Oakland 1, St. Bonaventure 1 (2OT): Cecilie Dokka tallied her second career goal while Joan Sieja added a team-high third assist as Oakland and St. Bonaventure played to a 1-1 double overtime draw. St. Mary’s 1, Youngstown State 0: A 70th minute goal by St. Mary’s sent Youngstown State to a 1-0 setback in its home opener at Farmers National Bank Field. After a scoreless first half, SMC's Anyssa Dominquez lofted a center from the right corner and was just past the out-stretched arms of YSU goalkeeper Elizabeth Balgoyen. Butler 1, Milwaukee 0: An early penalty kick provided the difference as Milwaukee dropped a 1-0 decision in a defensive-minded contest against Butler. The Panthers and Bulldogs played to a scoreless affair outside of the 15th-minute PK by Sophia Maccagnone that stood up as the winner. Paige Lincicum led an organized defensive effort for Milwaukee, following up a career-best 10 saves on Friday night with seven on Sunday. Read more … (link)
Michigan 3, Detroit 0: Two early goals put Detroit on the back foot as the Titans wound up falling to Michigan, 3-0. Jennifer Borawski gave the Titans their first chance at goal with a blast from 25 yards in the 20th minute, but a sprawled out Michigan keeper was able to prevent the score. Following the save, the Wolverines utilized a fast-paced counterattack to create an opportunity of their own. A shot from Reilly Martin caromed off a Titan defender and found the foot of Taylor Timko, who sent the follow-up into the net for a 1-0 Michigan lead in the 21stminute. Read more…(link)
