INDIANAPOLIS -- A Robo Kreps three with nine seconds to play lifted UIC to a 63-62 win over Toledo, while Eli Holman posted his third straight double-double to lead Detroit to a resounding 96-77 victory over Niagara on Sunday.
In a back-and-forth game, it was UIC (4-3) trailing 62-60 with 16 seconds to play. Kreps, who had just six points to that point in the game, drilled a three from the top of the key to give the Flames the lead for good in a game in which the lead changed hands nine times.
Up until that point, Zavion Neely carried the UIC offense, finishing with a game-high 22 points, including a career-best three three-point field goals on the game. Paul Carter recorded his second double-double of the season with 11 points and 14 boards. Carter added six assists against just one turnover, while Kreps added seven assists as well.
Holman's 11-point, 10-rebound effort earned him MVP honors of the Legends Classic subregional. The Titans shot 52.9-percent in the opening half while holding Niagara to a 31.4-percent shooting effort, enabling Detroit to head to the locker room with a 52-33 lead.
Four of five Detroit starters finished in double figures, led by Ray McCallum's 21. Nick Minnerath, who joined Holman on the All-Tournament Team, finished with 10, while Jason Calliste had 17. Coming off the bench, Lamarcus Lowe finished a with a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds, adding six blocks for good measure.
The two wins boosted the Horizon League's record to 10-4 on the weekend.
