Titans Fend Off UIC, 70-65, On Thursday-- Box Score
DETROIT (1/15/2015) -- Three Titans scored in double figures and the University of Detroit Mercy women's basketball team used some dominating defense in picking up its first Horizon League win of the season, 70-65, over UIC on Thursday evening at Calihan Hall.

Senior Ellisha Crosby led the way with 19 points, six rebounds and four assists. Redshirt sophomore Rosanna Reynolds tallied 15 points with four rebounds, two assists and two blocks and sophomore Minisha Frederick-Childress added 10 points and a season-high four steals.

The Titans (6-10, 1-2 HL) led by as many as 15 in the first half and 13 in the second stanza when UIC (11-5, 1-2 HL) went on a 9-0 run to trim the lead to just four, 49-45. Sophomore Haleigh Ristovski ended that with a jumper, but the Flames came back with a basket to make it 51-47 with 12:48 left. Read more

Women's Basketball Falls at Detroit, 70-65-- Box Score
DETROIT – The UIC women’s basketball team (11-5, 1-2 HL) outscored Detroit (6-10, 1-2 HL) by six in the second half but could not overcome a slow start Thursday night in a 70-65 defeat to the Titans. UDM shot 50 percent in the first half and 45 percent for the game, including 41 percent from downtown (7-of-17).

UIC set season highs in rebounds (55), field goal attempts (78), three-point attempts (22) and free-throw percentage (.750). The Flames outrebounded the Titans by 24 (55-31) and had 27 offensive rebounds, the second highest total this season behind the 30 they grabbed against Chicago State (Dec. 16). However, UIC was held to 32 percent shooting (25-of-78), including 24 percent in the first half (10-of-41).

Detroit’s 25 field goals are a UIC opponent season high and the Titans 70 points are the second most given up by the Flames this season. UIC blocked a season-slow one shot and forced a season-low 10 turnovers. Read more

Strong Second Half Lifts Oakland Over Valpo, 71-54-- Box Score
VALPARAISO, Ind. - Nola Anderson recorded 17 points and 12 rebounds, while Leah Somerfield added 13 points off the bench as Oakland (8-7, 2-0) defeated Valparaiso (4-12, 0-3), 71-54, in Horizon League women's basketball action Thursday night.

Anderson's 12 rebounds are a career-high as she collected her first-ever double-double and fifth straight double-digit point game. Somerfield tallied her third double-figure point performance this season. Elena Popkey and Peyton Apsey each added 12 points.

Leading 24-22 at the half, Oakland went on to outscore Valpo 47-32 in the second period led by Anderson with 14. The Golden Grizzlies shot 55.6 percent in the half. Oakland went on a 13-1 run over a four-minute stretch early in the period led by Somerfield with 9 points. Read more

Perimeter Shooting Betrays Valpo in 71-54 Loss to Oakland-- Box Score
Valparaiso entered Thursday evening's game owners of the Horizon League's best three-point field percentage, but a 1-for-15 night from beyond the arc hamstrung the Crusaders in a 71-54 loss to Oakland at the Athletics-Recreation Center.

Oakland opened a seven-point lead a little more than eight minutes into the opening half. Amy Carlton popped a three to cap a short 8-2 Golden Grizzly run and make it 16-9.

Anne Hamilton (Chanhassen, Minn./Minnetonka) answered with a triple of her own right out of a 30-second timeout. Oakland was unable to put points on the board on its next five trips down the court. Meanwhile, Haylee Thompson (Hailey, Idaho/Wood River [Utah State]) tied the game at 16-16 with a pair of field goals. Read more

Penguins Pick Up Impressive 79-65 Win Over Cleveland State-- Box Score
Youngstown -- Heidi Schlegel led the way with 25 points and a season-high 18 rebounds, while Latisha Walker added 21 as the Youngstown State women's basketball picked up a 79-65 win over Cleveland State on Thursday night at the Beeghly Center.

Schlegel and Walker combined to make 17 of 24 shots from the field while going 12-of-14 from the free-throw line. Schlegel scored 14 of her game-high 25 in the second half while Walker had 13 after the intermission.

The Penguins improve to 13-3 overall and 2-1 in the Horizon League with the win while Cleveland State drops to 9-6 and 1-1. Read more

Vikings Fall At Youngstown State, 79-65-- Box Score
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's basketball team dropped its first Horizon League contest of the season Thursday evening, falling at Youngstown State, 79-65. With the loss, the Vikings are now 9-6 overall this season and 1-1 in league play, while YSU improves to 13-3 overall and 2-1 in league play.

The Viking offense was led by the senior trio of Imani Gordon, Kiersten Green, and Cori Coleman who combined for 50 of CSU's 65 points on the night. Gordon posted a team-high 19 points along with nine rebounds, while Green added 17 points and Coleman tallied 14.

Cleveland State committed just four turnovers on the night – marking a season-low for the Vikings. On the flip side, the Vikings forced YSU into 16 turnovers, turning them into 21 points. Read more
