ATLANTA -- Detroit senior Doug Anderson has been selected to participate in the dunk contest portion of the State Farm Slam Dunk and 3-Point Championships during the week of the Final Four, Intersport announced today via Twitter.
Anderson averaged 12.1 points and 4.6 rebounds per game this season for the Titans and received national attention for his above-the-rim abilities. Four if his 77 dunks this season were featured on ESPN's Top 10 Plays, including three at the No. 1 ranking. The Horizon League Network also did a feature video on Anderson's airborne antics.
The 25th annual event will take place at McCamish Pavilion on the campus of the Georgia Institute of Technology and will be broadcast live on ESPN at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 4. The event will feature the talents on 24 of the nation's top basketball players in four contests: Hampton Hotels Men's 3-Point Championship, State Farm Women's 3-Point Championship, Pepsi Max Battle of the Champions and Denny's Slam Dunk Championship.
The event will be hosted by a broadcast team including Brad Nessler, Dan Dakich, Jimmy Dykes and Samantha Ponder.
A four-person celebrity panel will serve as on-site judges while fans on Twitter will serve as a collective fifth judge by tweeting the hashtag #CollegeSlam along with the player's name and score -- for example, #CollegeSlam #Anderson10. The four judges at the event will be Atlanta Falcons wide receivers Harry Douglas, Julio Jones and Roddy White, joined by former Georgia Tech star and current Denver Broncos receiver Demaryius Thomas.
Per a release, alumni of the State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships include Gary Payton (Oregon State), Steve Nash (UC-Santa Clara), Allan Houston (Tennessee), Bobby Hurley (Duke), Michael Finley (Wisconsin), Wes Matthews (Marquette), and Mario West (Georgia Tech). Six current members of the Harlem Globetrotters are alumni of this event: Kris Bruton, William Bullard, Herb Lang, Bryan Narcisse, Darnell Wilks and John Williams.
