Sherron Dorsey-Walker, Oakland | Senior | Detroit | Integrative Studies
ROCHESTER, Mich. – Oakland’s Sherron Dorsey-Walker has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Team, announced on Thursday. Dorsey-Walker becomes just the second men’s basketball player to earn this distinction in the Division I era (Max Hooper, 2016).

The 2016-17 CoSIDA Academic All-District™ Teams recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
Dorsey-Walker was one of five student-athletes to be honored in District 5, which includes universities in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio.

The senior guard has been a leader on the court and in the classroom, averaging 12.3 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game. Dorsey-Walker has recorded 13 double-digit performances, including a career-high 27 points against Oral Roberts earlier this season.

Dorsey-Walker ranks among the league’s best in Horizon League play in scoring (18th), rebounds (15th), assists (T6th), steals (T2nd), free throw percentage (T9th) and minutes played (8th).

Dorsey-Walker has always been committed to the classroom, graduating from Pershing High School as the class valedictorian. At Oakland he is a three-time Horizon League Academic Honor Roll selection and boasts one of the better GPAs on the team at 3.36 as an integrative studies major.

Alec Peters, Valparaiso | Senior | Washington, Ill. | Sports Administration
For the third straight season, Valparaiso University senior Alec Peters (Washington, Ill./Washington) has been honored for his work both on the hardwood and in the classroom, as he earned a spot on the CoSIDA Academic All-District V First Team.  With the Academic All-District honor, Peters is now eligible for Academic All-American selection.

Peters has stood out on the court this year for Valpo, leading the Crusaders to the top spot in the Horizon League standings and a 19-5 record overall entering play Thursday. The senior ranks third in the nation in scoring (23.6 ppg) and 12th in rebounding (10.8 rpg) and has tallied 15 double-doubles on the season. Peters has broken Valpo career records this season for field goals made, rebounding, scoring and free throws made, and has already cracked the program’s single-season top-10 charts for scoring and free throws made.

In the classroom, Peters began his post-graduate work this year in Valpo’s sports administration master’s program, where he currently holds a 3.53 grade point average. Beyond being a three-time First Team Academic All-District choice, Peters has been named to the Horizon League All-Academic Team each of the last two years and has been a member of the league’s Academic Honor Roll each semester eligible.
