Two Horizon League Women's Soccer Players - Wright State's Emilie Fillion and Milwaukee's Kelsey Holbert - were named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-District Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
The program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
Fillion is tied for the Horizon League lead in goals with eight, tied for second in points with 20 and tied for fourth with four assists. A psychology major with a 3.86 grade point average, Fillion was named the league's Offensive Player of the Week on August 26.
Holbert has been outstanding on the field for the Panthers this season, serving as a team captain and helping lead the team to a 7-8-1 record against some of the top competition in the country, including a 5-1-0 mark in the Horizon League thus far. She has three goals and four assists this season for 10 points, third-most on the team and tied for 10th in the conference.
She has arguably been even more impressive in the classroom, carrying a 4.0 GPA as a chemistry major with pre-medicine intent. She is also a member of the Honors College, is on the Dean's List and was recognized for having one of the highest GPAs in the athletic department.
As members of the Capital One All-District First Team, Fillion and Holbert will move on to the national ballot later this month. The team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
