DETROIT, Mich. - In conjunction with Motor City Madness, the Green Bay and Milwaukee men's basketball teams spent the weekend giving back to the City of Detroit. The Panthers spent Saturday morning and early afternoon of its day off in between games helping prepare and serve lunch at the Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries Christian Guidance Center.

The team, coaches and staff joined "Miss Anita" in setting up and serving meals to the nearly 60 clients at the facility on Saturday.

According to its website, the DRMM is in its 107th year of continued service providing food, shelter and services to intervene where homelessness and substance addiction occur.

"We are a rehabilitation center and we try and minister to the people we serve where they are at in their lives," spokesman Ken Austin said. "We exist on contributions and that is what we are all about."

Meanwhile, the Children’s Hospital of Michigan hosted the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay men’s basketball team Saturday morning for an event promoting healing and transformation for young patients.

Alongside children, volunteers and players took part in decorating hand-crafted wooden butterflies, which will be displayed at the new Children’s Hospital of Michigan opening in Midtown late spring. The new addition to the hospital is designed to advance pediatric health care on a newly developed 2.5-acre site.

Along with a helping hand, Green Bay also brought a familiar name back to Metro Detroit. Freshman forward Kameron Hankerson said he loves the feeling of volunteering and that this occasion was extra special because he’s a native of Novi.

“Giving back in general always feels great, but doing it in familiar surroundings makes the feeling much greater," Hankerson said. “I don’t get to come home often so being back feels good,” he said.Horizon League schools 2017 Little Caesars Horizon League Basketball Championships tickets are now on sale.
