The Phoenix, playing inside the Kress Events Center for just the second time this season, improved to 5-1 on the year with a 64-52 win over the University of Indianapolis.
Green Bay trailed a majority of the first half, falling behind by as many as seven points to the Greyhounds, before ending the half on a 21-9 run to take a 37-30 lead into the break. UIndy would never get closer than five points in the second half.
Lydia Bauer led the Phoenix with 18 points, while Adrian Ritchie chipped in 16 and Stephanie Sension finished with 13 points. Sension also had a team-high eight rebounds in the contest and Ritchie led the team in assists (seven) and steals (six).
Green Bay shot just 36.7 percent from the field, including a 20 percent mark from three-point range, but they outrebounded Indianapolis by eight and also forced 21 Greyhound turnovers.
Youngstown State 76, Stony Brook 43
A complete second-half performance by the Youngstown State women's basketball team helped propel the Penguins to an impressive 76-43 win over Stony Brook on Friday night at the Beeghly Center.
YSU outscored the Seawolves 43-19 in the second stanza after holding a nine-point advantage at halftime.
The Penguins shot 52.2 percent from the field in the final half while the Seawolves shot just 23.3 percent. YSU was on fire from behind the 3-point line in the second half making 8-of-11 attempts while SBU failed to connect on any of six attempts from deep in the second half. From the line, YSU was a perfect 11-of-11 in the second half and finished the game making 13-of-14 attempts.
With the victory, YSU improves to 5-1 on the season while Stony Brook falls to 3-3. It was the biggest margin of victory for the program since beating Buffalo 78-44 on Nov. 21, 2006 at the Beeghly Center.|
Liz Hornberger led the Penguins with 15 points. Heidi Schlegel contributed 14 points, Brandi Brown had 13 points and Thompson produced 11. For the game, YSU shot 48.1 percent, and shot at a higher clip from behind the 3-point arc making 13-of-25 attempts (52 percent).
Eight Penguins scored, seven had rebounds and five had assists, highlighted by a career-best 10 assists from Shar'Rea Davis.
Northern Illinois 67, Loyola 63
Host Northern Illinois used a 14-2 run late in the second half to earn a 67-63 win over Loyola tonight at the NIU Convocation Center in DeKalb, Ill. Monica Albano scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Ramblers.
Albano finished 7-of-10 from the floor (5-of-8 from downtown) for her 20 points. Simone Law notched her third double-double of the season, finishing with 13 points and 10 rebounds while Abby Skube (season-high 14 points) and Taylor Johnson (10) also reached double figures.
Trailing 42-32 at halftime, the Ramblers opened the second half with renewed defensive intensity and Albano capped a half-opening 7-0 run with a three-pointer to make it a three-point game. The home team managed to cling to its lead before the Ramblers put another spurt together, this time rattling off nine straight - the final five from Skube - to open a 54-48 lead with 8:43 to go. The Huskies scored the next seven to regain the lead and a Jenna Thorp jumper capped the 14-2 run that gave NIU a 62-56 lead with 3:26 left.
